On Monday 18th Sept, our pupils from the Mandarin class, accompanied by Mrs Zhou, went to Glasgow Airport to greet the Chinese Ambassador to the UK, Liu Xiaoming. Pupils presented the ambassador and his wife, Madame Hu, with bouquets of flowers and wished them a warm welcome to Scotland as they arrived for the Confucius Institute for Scotland’s Schools 5th Anniversary celebrations. The ambassador and his wife were also greeted by a Scottish Bagpipes, providing them with a lively cultural experience.
During Wednesday 20th lunch-time, the head teachers of St. Ninian’s Partner School in Tianjin, Mr Ma and Mrs Zhao visited St. Ninian’s Confucius Classroom to have a meeting with Mr. Docherty, Mrs Docherty, Mrs. Zhou and Students of Mandarin. S2 and S3 pupils treated Mr Ma and Mrs Zhao to a rendition of a Chinese song. They also showcased their Mandarin abilities through a round of ‘Word Wizard’ and Mandarin presentation. Mr Ma and Mr Docherty both made a speech to conclude the meeting.
On Wednesday 20th Sept evening, Mrs Zhou, Mrs Beaton, Louisa Preston and Mark Rae went to Strathclyde University’s McCance Building to take part in the CISS 5th Year Anniversary Alumni Event. There was a chance for conversation with fellow teachers and students of Mandarin, followed by several informative keynote speakers elaborating upon the important role the Chinese Language has played in their careers.
