Public Speaking Competition

Last night St Ninian’s hosted the East Renfrewshire heat of the ‘Crown Office and Procurator Fiscal Service Public Speaking Competition’. S2 and S3 students from St Ninian’s, Williamwood High School and Belmont House School presented five minute speeches discussing whether ‘social media is the enemy of equality’. The range  of topics covered under the heading of  equality was impressive and explored issues such as ageism, cyber bullying, human rights, political inequality, body image and terrorism.

Representing St Ninian’s were Sam Parker, Tom McHugh, Amina Hussain and Caterina Lue. Our students gave very thought-provoking presentations and had put a lot of work into their speeches. The judges were incredibly impressed with the standard of their presentations and the confidence with which they spoke. Special congratulations must go to Amina and Caterina who won this heat and have secured a place in the semi-finals, to be held at Kilmarnock Sheriff Court on Tuesday 14 March. Well done girls!

Thanks also to Holly Edgar for taking on the role of timekeeper, and Euan Munro for assistance with greeting visitors and organising refreshments.
