3D Design – Creativity developed through Interdisciplinary Learning 3-15
S1 pupils at St Ninian’s High have been developing their creative skills through a new and innovative course. Pupils work in both the Art, Design and Creativity and Design Technology Faculties to develop a wide range of skills focused on digital literacy and manipulation of 2 – dimensional materials to create 3 – dimensional forms. Pupils develop their problem solving skills to produce a creative solution that fulfils the brief. Throughout the course pupils seek to make connections in their learning by looking at the work of Scottish artists and designers work exploring techniques and creative approaches to Art & Design practice. In order to celebrate the success of the pupils, all design solutions are exhibited at the end of the course allowing pupil and parents an opportunity to see the work that has been produced. Our S1 pupils already have a basic skill set when entering both departments, which is formed through our comprehensive Transitions Programme. In Primary 7, pupils are introduced to the life of St Ninian’s High through a series of visits. These visits allow pupils to gain a learning experience of High School through following a Science, Art and Design and Design and Technology course. Through 3D Design and the Transitions programme staff have had a great opportunity to work together and develop their professional knowledge of another subject area as well as across Primary to High School Education.
