Procurator Fiscal Service’s Public Speaking Competition

St. Ninian’s High School had the pleasure of hosting the Procurator Fiscal Service’s Public Speaking Competition for Schools on the evening of Wednesday 27th November. Four S3 members of the St Ninian’s Public Speaking and Debate Society (Ansa Dean, Mary Treese Biju, Natasha Cameron and Ruth Edgar) represented St. Ninian’s in the competition.
The competition required contestants to think deeply about the topic “Ageism doesn’t just affect the elderly”, conduct research into the topic and develop a coherent line of argument. Contestants then had to present their argument clearly and passionately in front of three judges from the Procurator Fiscal Service.
All teams performed incredibly well and received enthusiastic praise from both the judges and the audience.
The event was an excellent opportunity for the young people to further develop their self-confidence and communication skills and respond to probing questions from fellow competitors and the judges.
Congratulations to the Kilmarnock Academy team who progressed into the next round. They were worthy winners and we wish them all the best for the next stage of the competition. Thank you to the office staff for providing refreshments for our visitors.
