Chinese New Year Lunchtime Concert

The Chinese Lunch-time Concert party on the 27th of February was a great achievement for all.

Apart from all the cultural activities and performances, there was also food and a great opportunity for learning about China.

The ceremony started off with a brief Mandarin talk, and introduced the first guest – Mrs. Chen. It was an absolute pleasure having her with us for the concert. She performed on the Chinese traditional instrument Guzheng and sang for us the lovely song ‘I Love You China.’ Pupils were amazed by her talent and capabilities.

Shortly after we invited the Chinese singers  S6 Jagoda Halicka and S1 Odin MacKenzie. They sang the beautiful song ‘Hometown’. Here’s a comment from Jagoda – “I feel that the performance went quite well. I’m sure the meaning of the song still came through regardless and the audience enjoyed it.”

Miss O’Donnell and the Mandarin Choir came shortly after with a performance of the song ‘True Hero’. The same song was sung at the SCEN Youth China Conference, when we were hosting pupils from Hong Kong in Scotland. The whole audience clapped along and it made the atmosphere a whole lot more joyful.

The last Chinese music performance was a violin solo from S6 Paul Docherty. Paul has been a great friend of the Mandarin class and has previously performed on many Chinese festivities. He was awarded with a traditional Chinese painting from Mr Docerhty for all his hard work and left us all stunned by the amazing music.

The Chinese Lunch-time Concert Party was a magical thing to attend and we recommend that all should get involved in Mandarin and the Chinese culture.
