NASA Space Station Experiment – Nicola Martin
Last year, three pupils from St. Ninian’s participated in the NASA Mission Discovery Week, which is organised by the International Space School Educational Trust. During the five day mission pupils can learn:
- NASA leadership, team building and personal development skills
- Biomedical research
- How space exploration benefits life on earth
- What the space environment feels like (from those who know)
- About scientific research, experiments and innovation—on earth and in space
Working in teams, participants develop their idea for an experiment that can be carried out in space.
Nicola Martin (S4) was part of the winning team last year and their experiment – how to determine the growth of phosphate solubilising bacteria in microgravity – is being launched into space this evening.
The experiment will be launched aboard SpaceX CRS-11 is headed to the International Space Station! The launch is due to take place at 21:55 GMT.
