The Social Mobility Foundation

The Social Mobility Foundation support high achieving students from low-income backgrounds into top universities and professions. Support is free of charge and tailored to one of 11 career sectors:

  • Accountacy
  • Architecture
  • Banking and Finance
  • Biology and Chemistry
  • Business
  • Engineering and Physics
  • Law
  • Media and Communications
  • Medicine
  • Politics
  • Technology

Students on the programme receive mentoring, work placements, skills sessions, university application support and support into employment.

Students who wish to apply must meet the eligibility criteria set out below:

Academic Criteria

  • Currently in S5
  • Achieved 5 A/B grades at National 5 (or 4 A/B grades if National 5 pass rate is below 50%)
  • Predicted ABBB grades at Higher

Background Criteria

  • Eligible for Free School Meals any time since S1
  • Or first generation of family to go to university and undertook their National 5s at a school where 20% or more students are on Free School Meals
