Free elearning – an introduction to Positive Behaviour Support

The elearning resource is for family carers of young people with autism (age 5 to 18).  This can be parents, grandparents, carers, foster carers, siblings etc.  This would also include family carers of young people in the process of assessment/diagnosis.

The intended outcome of the training is an introduction to Positive Behaviour Support (PBS) and the learning outcomes we have identified are:

  • To promote awareness of the Positive Behaviour Support (PBS) approach
  • To define challenging behaviour
  • To learn about the stages of challenging behaviour
  • To promote understanding of why a young person may have challenging behaviours
  • To learn about Functional Assessment, and how this information informs strategy planning
  • To feel competent and confident in taking this approach forward

There are 7 sections in the course, which will take approximately 30 minutes each, although the user can choose the section that is of most interest to them rather than completing each section.

At the end of the course, we give the option to support completion of a One Page Profile, or an individual plan. I couldn’t put a time limit on how long this would take as it’s dependent on the person, however we have samples that users can refer to.

The course is free to access, access is not time limited, and users can save their progress as they go.
