Women in Sport Week and Active Girls Day

Dear Parent/Carer

Scottish Women and Girls in Sport Week, 1st – 8th October

Active Girls Day, 6th October 2017

East Renfrewshire Culture and Leisure (ERCL), in partnership with sportscotland is committed to raising awareness of the importance of increasing participation in sport and physical activity amongst women and girls in East Renfrewshire, and to reducing the barriers to participation.

Next week we will be supporting ‘Scottish Women and Girls in Sport Week’. The week will culminate in Active Girls Day on Friday 6th October.

ERCL and sportscotland will be posting and promoting content across social media to support this week and Active Girls Day. Below you will find an outline of this activity and ways you and/or your children can get involved.

Visit our website to view our specific activities www.ercultureandleisure.org/womeninsport or view our general programmes here www.ercultureandleisure.org/sport

#SportHour – Monday 2nd October at 9pm

Aileen Campbell, Minister for Public Health and Sport, will be co-hosting sportscotland’s monthly Twitter discussion, themed ‘girls’ participation’ alongside Hannah from the sportscotland Young people’s sport panel. Join in this positive online chat with people from across the sporting sector. Follow @sportscotland and find out more here.

How to engage: follow @sportscotland on Twitter and join in at 9pm on Monday night to chat!

Active Girls Day – Friday 6th October

Active Girls Day aims to raise the profile of the amazing work going into girls’ sport, and the incredible role models making it happen. Activities will be happening across East Renfrewshire secondary schools during the day and across ERCL venues in the evening for girls aged 8 and over.

How to engage: Visit our website to view our activities www.ercultureandleisure.org/womeninsport and join in on social media using #ActiveGirls

 #unstoppablegirl

Members of sportscotland’s the Young people’s sport panel working group on women and girls have been creating videos to engage and inspire women and girls in sport. They want to inspire women and girls to become #ActiveGirls and to love sport as much as they do – join them on social media as they talk about #unstoppablegirls and ask for your views!

How to engage: watch the videos on sportscotland’s Twitter, Facebook and Instagram pages and send in your pictures and clips featuring #unstoppablegirls and #ActiveGirls.

Regards

Barry

SCIAF Fun Day

On Friday 18th March we held a fun day to raise money for SCIAF. This was a non uniform day and children were involved in lots of fun events. Our SCIAF total has been boosted by an amazing amount and is now in excess of £3000! Thank you so much to all our generous St Cadoc’s families.

Keep bringing in those “wee boxes” please. Our final total will be announced at the end of the week.

Thanks again!
