Feel free to use the powerpoint to read around your Civil Rights topic.
Do you have any books your think I should add in?
What movies might you include?
What song did you find the most inspiring?
Let me know and I can add in your ideas.
Take care, Mrs Baird
Are you ready for all the fun and games starting next week?
You could:
follow the library on twitter @stninianslib and read a clue each day to find out where Hamish the cow has been on his holiday and you could win a copy of the BRAND NEW Diary of a Wimpy Kid.
If that is not your thing you could come along to our annual book sale in the forum. Hundreds of books to choose from and all £2 or less!
If competitions are much more your thing then you could take part in the Scot or Not competitions – a list of 20 things, places or people and you have to work out if they are Scottish or err Nottish! – Free to enter and entries to be handed in to the library by Friday 28th. DO NOT HELP YOUR TEACHER – let them try to work it out on their own.
If you are more of a fashion diva or a bookish type them combine both interests with a tartan book tammy making extravaganza. Just pop in to the library at any lunchtime 24-28 and Mrs Baird will show you how!.
As if that was not enough check out the Book Week Scotland web site for chances to vote for your favourite Scottish character, make a reading pledge or even and this would be lovely for you to write a love letter to your library – remember library not me ( I know that will be tough).

Big or small, staff or pupil get involved – of I will send Hamish round and you don’t want him angry!
Suzanne Collins is at it again and had created another world to immerse yourself in.
Not Panem but the Underlands.
The new books will be available in the library very soon …
But, in the meantime why not create your very own Underland creature?
Everyone can be a librarian can’t they?
I would love to do your job I hear cry when I tell people what I do.
Then I ask them … so, what is it you think I do?
Um don’t you just stamp books all day?
The short answer to that is NO… the longer answer is explained in this lovely poster developed under creative commons ( you don’t know what that is – go ask a librarian!)
So, why not pop ito the library to see what I can help you with after all?
Like a phoenix rising from the ashes the library is once more open to pupils. After a week of prepping and painting and blood sweat and tears a beautiful vision of loveliness awaits you in the library (other than me!).
Freshly painted walls, beautifully crafted signage (thanks to Mr Thorburn) and elegant and eye catching furniture are the flavour of the day. If you have not sampled the delights of a raspberry chair or snuggled on a tennis ball yellow comfy seat…. Where have you been?
Not only had the make-over resulted in an enhanced environment but we can also offer a little bit more room for studying with an extra 10 reading/ study spaces.
On Wed 6th Feb the library will be taking part in a Guinness World record attempt at having the most numbers of people writing the same story at the same time. Over 190 schools have signed up to this challenge and we want in that big book.
All you have to do is come along to the library at lunchtime and write the next 2 yes only 2 lines of a story that has been started off by the lovely author Matt Haig.
If you want to see a copy of the start of the story please come and see Mrs. Baird BEFORE the event so that you can get those creative juices flowing.
You do not have to be a budding Shakespeare to take part you only have to be enthusiastic and willing to support your school.
It should be great fun and a story to tell all your friends for years to come. There is also a rumour that some sweeties might be on hand to inspire!
So, there is no excuse not to come along – this includes staff as well as teachers can take part too.
See you there!
I will keep you all posted as to how well we have done…
A new term- even more fun! and that’s just what the teachers say (um, sort of)
There are lots of new titles in the library to borrow, so, whether you are a die hard library fan or a newbie with vim pop in and see what delights await you.
Remember, to borrow books from the library you don’t have to bring in your All Access card or your ER Young Scot card just need to know your name. If you do not own either of these cards please pop in and see me and I will get you a borrowers form.
Worries about how to use the library?
Get library savvy with the help of the games at Order in the Library. And if you are super good at these games perhaps you should think about volunteering as a library assistant. See me for more details!
Today we had a super attendance for the meeting for new library assistants at St.Ninian’s.
Lots of pupils showed up to express an interest in helping out. I can not wait to get started and would like to say a big thanks to all those pupils who have agreed to help out in the library and by doing so help other libray users and the school.
Well done you!
Keep your eyes on this web site for more library assistant information and perhaps some articles by the assistants themselves!
Nothing to do with Microsoft it’s the library windows I am on about.
If you have not been into the forum in the past few days you might have missed the beautiful additions to the library windows ( thanks to Techie dept and my creative ideas).
If you like them why not come in to the library and have a look at the others adorning the rest of the library?
