Class Blog 28.02.20

This week, we asked Primary 5a what they enjoyed learning about.  Here is what they said:

Class Blog

Joseph- The navy came and showed us some of their equipment.  They gave us a tour of their boat and we got to try their VR headsets.  (Charlotte) One of the stations demonstrated how an engineer on the boat would fix a leak in an air pipe.  We had a test of strength when we tried to close the pistons. (Adam H) They also showed us spheros and we learned how to make them jump around and animate them.

(Elise) In P.E. we played a game that when we had to pass the ball to each other and header it on the side of the fence to score a point.

(Ailsa) With Ms Eddie we made mindfulness bottles, we mixed water and glue and glitter glue and we used glitter to decorate.

(Harry) Today we have a special menu for lunch in celebration of international learning day.

(Ruby) In the class, we got Nessy spelling fixed. So some people got a chance to do it at the beginning of literacy.

(Julia) In social studies, we were learning about the Clyde and how it has been polluted since 1918-2010.  Nowadays it is less polluted. (Noor) We made posters about The Clyde and had the chance to finish these off.

(Abbie P) In Big Writing we made Valentines poems. I wrote mine to my little sister.

(Eilidh P) Today, the Brownies, Cubs, Scouts, Beavers, Guides and Rainbows got to wear their uniforms because on the 22nd it was the birthday of Lord and Lady Badenborfer.

(Joseph) This week we are sad to be losing Sabre for 2 whole months as he goes back to New Zealand.  Have a great holiday Sabre J

 

 

 

P5a Class Blog 31.Jan

We asked the children what they enjoyed learning about this week, here is what they said…

Charlotte: We had a new seating arrangement.

Noor: In maths, the pyramids were making a Powerpoint about 3D shapes and doing some online research.

Sabre: In assembly, we were talking about Chinese New Year and learned about the Chinese zodiac.

Eilidh P: In maths, the cubes were learning about time- it was quite challenging.

Hirah: In social studies, we planned our research in which we compared another country’s landscape with Scotland’s.

Muhammad: In literacy, the apostrophes read an instruction manual on how to download photos onto your desktop.

Ruby: On Tuesday, in PE we were doing fitness and we were running around the MUGA doing as many laps as we could in 10 minutes.

Abbie: In Big Writing, we were writing about our character getting trapped in a cave. (Leon) 3 of us got to read our stories out to the class.

Owen: In maths, we played a challenging game in which you had to move a car to the correct coordinates, we also played a game in which you had to guess if a net would form a cube or not.

Here is what P5a have enjoyed learning about this week…

(Elise) In maths, the cubes were learning about time and how to work out time durations. In art we were learning how to do crosshatching and we made a thistle.

(Noor) In Big Writing, we created our own character.

(Muhammad) In literacy, the apostrophes have been learning about persuasive language.

(Sabre) In maths, the pyramids have been learning about 2D and 3D shapes.

(Aaron) On skills academy the design and manufacture group were making houses out of playdough and matchsticks.

(Abbie) We were using the atlases to figure out where UK rivers are.

(Ailsa) In topic, we were learning about the Tay Bridge Disaster and we had to create a news report.

(Harry) We were learning about comparative and normal adjectives.

(Affan) The digital group worked with Spheros, Nicolas and I made our Sphero breakdance.

(Adam H) In Learning for Sustainability we brought in our natural materials and made eco art.  My group made a hedgehog and Viraj’s group made a tree. Eilidh M’s group made a bird.

This week, we asked the children what they were most excited about at the start of their new term, here is what they told us!

(Ruby) In Big Writing, we were writing a letter of complaint about the topic of our choice.

(Hirah) In maths, the Cubes moved onto a new topic, ‘multiples, factors and primes’

(Muhammad) Yesterday, we all moved into our new Skills Academy groups.

(Aaron) Fleming are going to have their rewards afternoon where they can watch a movie with some popcorn and a blanket.

(Ailsa) We changed our desks into a double-horseshoe shape.

(Leon) All the children in the school are making an app and whoever has the best in the school gets it made into a real app and parents are not allowed to help.

(Adam H) The eco committee achieved their sixth green flag and they were telling us about it in assembly.

(Noor) In Skills Academy, life skills were making breakfast bars.

(Julia) In maths, the pyramids have got a new topic called 2D and 3D shapes.

(Thomas) In skills academy, design and manufacture had to make a table and the top had to be 20cm x 20cm and had to be able to support a book.

P5a 29.11.19

This week, we have begun rehearsing for our Christmas show.  We have chosen soloists and actors to play some very important parts and are excited to share our hard work with friends and family very soon.

In ICT we have finished presenting our projects on the Seven Ancient Wonders.

As part of our health topic, we have been learning about substance misuse and have been learning about consequences and peer pressure.

We had our final skills academy of the year where we made worry monsters, buildings and pencil cases.  The digital technologies group have also finished creating their Scratch storyboards and digital designs.

(Emma) This week we started rehearsing for our Christmas show, ‘A Christmas Window’.
(Harry) We put up a display in the ICT pod, all about Queen Victoria.
(Muhammad) In ICT, we showed our presentations on the Seven Ancient Wonders of the world.
(Noor) As part of our Victorians topic, we took part in a Victorian job fair.
(Elise) The Cubes have been learning about complementary angles.
(Abbie) In Big Writing, we were writing a leaflet about jobs available to children in the Victorian times.
(Sabre) The pyramids have been learning about whole numbers. (Leon) The cylinders were doing symmetry in maths, the whole class went outside to find symmetry in nature.

P5 trip to Summerlee Industrial museum

 

This week, both classes went on a trip to the Summerlee museum as part of our Victorians topic.  The children had the chance to take part in an interactive workshop where they got to dress up like Victorian children, have a go at writing using a quill and ink, and play with some traditional Victorian toys.
Next, they got to visit a reconstruction of a mine and hear about the jobs that Victorian children might’ve done.  Finally, we spent some time in the museum which had information about Coatbridge and Glasgow throughout the ages- everyone enjoyed having a dance in the reconstruction of the Barrowland Ballrooms!

Thanks again to all of our parent helpers who made the trip run so smoothly! The children had a brilliant time.

This week, P5a enjoyed having two French guests in the classroom.  One of them taught us some French songs and told us a little bit about life in Cannes (Emma).
In maths, the cylinders enjoyed creating and solving their own calculator problems for one another (Harry).
We started our new social studies topic, ‘The Victorians’ with a lesson on Queen Victoria which helped us to practise our note-taking (Ailsa).
In ICT, we finished our presentation on the Seven Ancient Wonders (Jamie).
In literacy, most of the groups have been attempting some trickier comprehension to challenge themselves (Muhammad)

For our class blog this week, P5a were asked about the most interesting parts of their week at school, here is what they said…

(Ailsa) We finished our Seven Natural Wonders of the World topic with a special lesson about Rio de Janeiro.
(Elise) In art we learned how to draw Keith Harring art by drawing stick men and going around the lines to make them into distinctive shapes.
(Owen) This week we learned some Portuguese words and watched a video of a man on top of the statue of Christ the Redeemer.
(Leon) The boys in the class did a drawing competition.
(Sabre) In maths, the spheres used the geo-boards to make shapes.
(Affan) In P.E. we have been playing bench ball.
(Abbie) In the cubes we were drawing houses and using rulers to see how long they were in centimetres.
(Thomas) When we were learning about the seven natural wonders, we had to shut our eyes as our partner described a picture to us so we could draw it.
