2.10.15 P2b This week in school

This week in school

Art and Weather topic

We have been learning about the weather and we have been enjoying this. We made our very own windmills in art this week. We were able to design them and we used split pins and straws to hold them together.

“We have tried very hard to make them” (Orla)

“We were doing lots of good work to make them bright and pretty” (Matthew)

Science

We have been learning about food chains in our Science project. We made paper food chains to represent what a food chain is.

“We used the whiteboard to find out about food chains and to put it into the right order”. (Abigail)

“You always start off with a plant” (Dylan)

Language

This week in our writing lesson we had to create an imaginative story. Mrs McKim brought in a yellow submarine and sea monsters to help us write our story. It was fun to come up with our own ideas and to listen to the ideas of others.

“I was happy with my story” (Cara)

“I enjoy creating pictures to match my story” (Dhruv)

Numeracy

We are continuing to develop our mental maths skills and we are becoming more confident. Some of us have been learning about symmetry and others have been learning about right angles.

Ellis enjoyed playing tinny teacher when learning about right angles. He had to ensure that the children were putting the correct objects into the correct hoop. In addition to this we went on a right angle hunt around the classroom.

“It was fun” (Ellis)

Others have been learning about symmetry. Children know what this term means and have also been looking for symmetrical shapes and symmetry in a real life context.  We are looking forward to making our own symmetrical pictures.

We are looking forward to our weekend and to another busy week at school next week.

Thank you
