EWHCF Class of 2020

Learning in September

Welcome to our blog

We have had another exciting week in school.

Author Visit

We went to see author Chris Riddell. He illustrated all of our questions and we were able to buy his books – he even signed them for us! He was very interesting and funny. He loves writing and loves drawing even more. He always starts his stories from a drawing. We have been reading one of his books in class (Ottoline and the Yellow Cat) we have loved looking at his illustrations. It tells us so much about the storyline.

“I really liked his visit because he was funny and he told us the reason why he became an author” (Emily)

“He told us interesting stories and he was really funny” (Naomi)

Writing – Poetry

We have been learning how to write Octopoems. We had lots of fun and we were able to make up our own Octopoem following a certain criteria.

We also created an Octopoem about our school at the moment and then created another based on what it will look like in the future and were able to compare them.

Maths

We have been learning about measurement and we were able to measure ourselves using a tape measure. We recorded our results and then ordered the heights. We also had to add the heights together and complete various challenges.

Some of us have been learning to divide using remainders. We have found it a little tricky, but with practise and concrete material to aid our learning we are becoming more confident.

Others have been measuring volume and learning about the standard unit of measurement we use for this.

Others have continued to develop subtraction skills and learning about greater than and less than symbols.

P.E

We are learning about throwing and catching and we have been using shuttle cocks to do this. We are also enjoying weekly yoga in the class on a Friday morning and improving our fitness in outdoor P.E on a Tuesday afternoon.

We hope you all have a wonderful weekend.
