This week in P3 we have learnt about Robert Burns. This is because Monday 25th January is when Burns’ night is celebrated, on his birthday. We learnt about his life and the songs and poems that he wrote. We have also learned about the Scots language. We had to match different Scots words with pictures. Some of the words were easier than others but we managed to match quite a few! Miss Bishop’s language side read ‘To a Mouse’ which is a famous Burns’ poem. We found out the meanings of words we didn’t know and looked at a modern day translation.

On Wednesday we went on our trip to see Rura at Celtic Connections. The bands were fantastic! The second band had bagpipes, a fiddle, a guitar and bodhrán which is a type of drum. We had a great time clapping and dancing along to the music.

In maths, the Cuboids have been learning division which is sharing a number into equal parts. We learnt that the sign for division is a line and two dots. We looked at sharing cupcakes into equal groups to practise. The Dazzling Dividers and Cunning Calculators have learnt about measuring volume and capacity. Volume is measured in litres and millilitres. We did lots of different measuring activities where we had to estimate, measure and order different containers.
