The National Parent Forum of Scotland

The National Parent Forum of Scotland has been working with Skills Development Scotland to produce some tailored information for parents, as part of their successful “in a nutshell” series, which covers the new Careers Education Standard. This new nutshell will supply parents with basic information about the initial role of this programme in schools.  Please see link below.  This has also been produced in a hard copy which will be given out to the children.

Career Education Standard

WEEE box

As part of the Eco Committee’s work toward their Green Flag, they are raising awareness of where energy comes from and how we can use it more wisely.
They have installed a Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment (WEEE) box at the reception which can be used to recycle unwanted electrical equipment.
The items will be recycled free of charge by East Renfrewshire Council.

We are looking for unwanted or broken computer consoles, hair-dryers, IPod, cables, mobile phones and chargers, etc.

Badminton Tournament

Last Thursday, a group of children from our Badminton after school club won the Cluster Tournament in Springhill and Auchenback.
They achieved a fantastic 105 points out of a possible 110!

On Tuesday 24th November, they played in the East Renfrewshire Badminton Finals and came second place in the authority. We are all very proud of this fantastic achievement and the children thoroughly enjoyed representing Barrhead and the school.

Primary 7 Residential Trip

Children are having a great time. Disco last night and all thoroughly enjoyed themselves.  All good this morning and everyone is already packed and ready!  They are looking to leave Lockerbie Manor at 1.30pm and we will send a text out to confirm arrival time when they get nearer home.

Primary 7 Residential Trip

Everyone had a good sleep last night after a very busy afternoon and evening!  All the children are loving the activites and by last night had  completed high ropes, zip wire and fencing!  Weather is currently dry but a bit grey so hope the rain stays away.  As it was a pupil’s birthday yesterday the children enjoyed a bit of birthday cake for supper!

The next big idea!

A big congratulations to Kyle and Kacie from P5 who won first place in the CRNS ‘What’s the Next Big Idea?’ competition. The children had to create a new idea that would encourage people in  Scotland to recycle. Kyle and Kacie’s Climate Change entry was about reducing packaging, namely bottles of toiletries and household products, by encouraging supermarkets to install refill stations within their stores whereby consumers could top up their bottles with supermarket brand products.

The children have been invited to present their idea ta the Scottish Parliament on the 6th November and will receive £500 for the school.

Jody McKay, also P5, received a special mention for his idea of reducing the amount of disposable coffee cups being used daily by discounting drinks that were served in a customer’s own cup.

Congratulations to the winners and thanks to all the children who took part across P5, P6 and P7. All ideas were very creative and some are now being considered for the school by the pupil council.
