Well done to pupils in Primary 1 – their winter assembly was wonderful!

The school is now closed for the Winter holiday and re-opens on Thursday 5th January 2017 at 9am.
This afternoon we held a Ready, Steady, Cook! event to celebrate winning the first ever Better Eating, Better Learning Innovation Award. The Green Peppers (Ms Usmani, Jane Abraham, Rhuairidh, and Natasha) competed against the Red Tomatoes (Ms Cushley, Linda Gibson, Susannah and Razin) to create the best afternoon tea from a box of mystery ingredients. Watched by upper school pupils and invited guests both teams produced delicious teas. The Red Tomatoes were judged to have narrowly won the vote with their offering of bruschetta and vol au vents.
After the vote Alistair McIntyre, the ASSIST chair, presented Ben and Zara with the award. He spoke very highly of the school, saying that the work being done at Busby involving food is outstanding and that we are leading the way nationally.

What a fantastic experience for our P4 and P5 pupils this afternoon, supported by Colin from Google. The pupils were able to explore the universe and The Great Barrier Reef using Google Cardboard virtual reality viewers. From the oohs and aaghs that filled the room a great time was had by all!
The Running Club enjoyed their annual ‘Santa Dash’ on Thursday afternoon. Our thanks to the parents, staff and pupils who make the club such a success.
Pupils took part in the ‘B’ Factor talent show yesterday afternoon. This was organised by our House Captains as part of their leadership responsibility. It was a great afternoon and thoroughly enjoyed by everyone. Congratulations to Viaduct House for winning the trauchle!
Your child’s yellow folder will make its way home in schoolbags tomorrow to allow you to see some of the work undertaken this session. We hope you enjoy sharing this with your child. Can we ask you to ensure you sign and comment on the relevant sheet and return the folder to school next week.
It was Festive Lunch day at school today. Pupils enjoyed a choice of turkey with all the trimmings, sausages and mash or pasta with sauce. The lunch ladies coped admirably with all the extra lunch customers. Thanks to all parents and children who chose from our special menu.
Thank you to all parents who attended the ‘Mad Hatter’s Tea Party’ this morning. The sandwiches made by Miss Harris’ Skills Academy group looked delicious and we hope you enjoyed seeing your children’s hat designs.

The ‘Busby Family’ saved the day on Friday as the planned performance of ‘Snow White’ was called off at very late notice. Miss Lawson and P2/3 sang “When I Grow Up” from Matilda and Mrs McLean and Primary 4 performed a selection of Christmas songs. Miss Cairnie led a storytelling session, ably assisted by P4 pupils.
Well done and thank you to all who performed for the Nursery parents and pupils. ‘Snow White’ has been rescheduled for Friday 9th December at 10.45am. Nursery parents are welcome to join us for the performance.

If your son or daughter is aged five between 1 March 2017 and the end of February 2018, you should come along to school between 1.30pm and 3.30pm any day during the week of Monday 16 January to Friday 20 January 2017.

Your child will remain provisionally enrolled until you have provided all required information and may be unable to attendinduction days until fully enrolled.

Today all our Primary 6 and 7 pupils participated in a workshop led by two PhD students from the Robert Burns Centre at Glasgow University. The pupils were introduced to the various speeches associated with a Burns Supper and had the opportunity to compose their own.
