Volunteers Needed

ER Active Schools/Sport Development are recruiting volunteers to help on their sport/physical activity programmes. This could be helping with after school clubs, community clubs, festivals, holiday programmes etc. How much time you volunteer is entirely up to the individual – it may be one hour per week, 4 hours per week, one event every few months, a holiday programme etc If you, or know anyone over 16 who would be keen to be involved please come along to Williamwood High School (conference room) on 16th Jan at 6pm to find out more.

Scottish School Meals Week

East Renfrewshire Catering are supporting the Scottish School Meals Week. This event will be promoted in this weekend’s Sunday Mail and schools will be featured throughout the week in the Evening Times.
The menus on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday will have menus from finalists from the Scottish School Cook of the Year 2012, as the daily special. All menus throughout the week will be made from fresh produce, prepared as nutritional balanced meals.

International School Meals Day is on Friday 8 March and will offer a buffet style menu in primary schools.

Free Online Access Control Software for Parents from Argos

Argos partnered with Symantec to provide Norton’s Family Software to parents for free (no purchase necessary).  The software allows parents to block access to certain types of sites and monitors use.  It works on PCs and laptops and more to the point, on smartphones and tablets.  I’m told that one of the most popular questions from the October national campaign was from parents worried about how they can control their children’s use of mobile devices and how they would know what type of sites their kids were going to and this software fits that bill.  Features include:

Android smartphone monitoring – to see how children are using their phones

– Web monitoring and blocking – tracks what websites your child visits

– Time limits – manages the time children can access the internet from any device

– Social networking monitoring – keeps an eye on your children’s activity

– Search monitoring – updates what your children are searching for

– Email alerts – alerts you when your children do something they shouldn’t, like try to access blocked sites.

Argos made this move in support of the Government’s proposed legislation for ensuring protection for children from adult content on the internet.  If you want to know more, here is the link.  www.getsafeonline.org/news/free-online-access-control-software-for-parents/ .
