A week of fun activities and learning all about science!

Evidence collected and analysed.  Witness statements were taken and suspects were interviewed.  Even the CCTV was reviewed and lots of experiments were conducted on DNA, Chromatography and fibre analysis. It was time to reveal our culprit! PC Cunningham and the STEMM committee reported back.

The week ended with a fabulous workshop display from our P6 & P7 pupils working with the Scottish Opera.

A Busby Primary pupil, has been named as one of four highly commended runners up in the John Byrne National Drawing Competition, beating thousands of other entries to be chosen.

Kevin (P7) received the commendation on Friday 18th March from John, who unveiled the winners and runners up at a special exhibition of competition entries at Paisley Museum and Art Gallery to mark the end of the second year of the competition.

John revealed Kevin as one of the three highly commended runners up for their artwork, alongside our other finalists, Larisa (P7) and Jennifer (P5) who received a commendation from John for their artwork.

John Byrne, said: “I’m really pleased to announce Kevin as one of the four highly commended runners up in this year’s John Byrne National Drawing Competition and I’d like to extend my congratulations to them.

“The runners up were chosen thanks to their inspired use of colour and composition to make some eye-catching artwork that helped their entries stand out against the other competitors.”

“The young people in our country never cease to amaze me with their artistic skills and extraordinary talent, and that has come through in this year’s entries. The standard of work has been fantastic and I hope that the competition has inspired many of the young entrants to continue to enjoy art and draw more.

Bill Maxwell, Education Scotland Chief Executive said: “I’m really pleased to offer my congratulations to Kevin chosen as one of four highly commended runners up of this year’s John Byrne National Drawing Competition. It’s been another successful year after receiving thousands of competition entries from talented children and young people in schools across the country.

“The competition is a great opportunity for children and young people to tap into their creativity and unleash their artistic talents and showcase their work in front of one of Scotland’s most talented and renowned artists.”

Miss Hunter said how proud she is of all our finalists and thanked all the pupils for their hard work.  This shows how hard work and showing commitment can be rewarded.  Well done!

Kevin and the other finalist received a specially designed and signed certificate created by John, and their artwork, is on display at the museum as part of a special exhibition.

The exhibition is free to enter and will be in Paisley until 17th April.

Build a sandwich day 23.03.2016

On Thursday 17^th March we are going to be presented with our GOLD award from Sports Scotland.  This award is recognition of our schools achievements in putting quality physical education and school sport at the heart of a school’s planning, practice and ethos.

On the day you need to come dressed as your favourite Sporting Hero or dressed to participate in your favourite sport. Will you come dressed as Andy Murray? Jessica Ennis-Hill? Usain Bolt? Sir Chris Hoy? Serena Williams?

The only request is no specific football team strips but national teams are acceptable.

On this day we will also be revealing the winners from our Super Hero Mascot homework. The children have been voting for the best from each category from Fairness, Honesty, Respect, Responsibility and Courage. The winning entries are going to be made into large figures and displayed in the gym hall.

Busby Police investigate serious crime!

STEM week got well and truly underway with the STEM committee ‘ inspectors’ leading the investigation as to how one of our ipads got broken! The day started with a whole school assembly with some very special STEM ambassadors and visitors finding out about the crime, followed by the STEM detectives meeting with DI Hunter & PC Cunningham to formulate a plan to take forward the investigation.

Over the next few days, each class will investigate a particular aspect of the crime from fingerprint analysis, CCTV footage to DNA and footprint analysis. It is hope from today’s gathering of evidence, the team will be in a position to interview suspects of the crime tomorrow and perhaps be in a position to work out ‘whodunnit’ from there.

In addition to this, we had a very special visit from Mr Carmon, who shared his knowledge of being a radiographer with a number of classes, along with Mr Wallace, who visited some classes and delivered some hands on engineering activities. Dr Blyth also visited classes this morning to discuss parts of the body and how they work.

 We have created our own Busby Police logo.  We are all been having great fun learning about science.
