SHOWMYHOMEWORK – A New Initiative

One of the most significant effects on a young person’s progress can happen through the engagement of parents/carers in their child’s learning. Barrhead High School has subscribed to ‘Show My Homework’ to remove any barriers there may be for parents accessing/understanding what homework should be completed at home.

We intend in using this Homework App starting Monday 3 September.  To prepare for the launch of this initiative your child will have received by the end of the day tomorrow:-

  • A letter introducing the initiative
  • An Acceptance Letter – which needs to be signed and returned to the school office
  • A letter with codes and instructions on how to login – this can be used by a maximum of 5 people.

To support you further we have also provided you with an electronic guide.  If you wish a paper copy of this please ask your child to collect one from the office staff. Guide for Parents

If you wish you can attend a Help/Information Meeting at Barrhead High School on the Big Steps:

Wednesday 29 August at 1700 hours

Wednesday 29 August at 1800 hours

Monday 3 September at 1700 hours

The Head Teacher is positive that by using the package you will feel more informed and involved in your child’s learning.

Any further information or concerns can be passed to Mrs Crawford – Depute Head (0141 577 2100).

Edinburgh Book Festival 2018

Pupils from Barrhead High and Mearns Castle High schools visited the Edinburgh Book Festival to hear Sarah Crossan and Clementine Beauvais talk about their new books. Before listening to these two fabulous authors we had the chance to browse in the book shop and eat lunch in the warm, sunny gardens. The day was rounded off by having books signed.

Here are some of the views of our pupils:

“Loved it. A great first time being there!”

“It was great. I would definitely come again.”

“An absolutely amazing experience. Loved it just as much as last year… Overall my favourite part was getting to meet the authors.”

Car Access to Barrhead High

We are still a few weeks away from the final completion and handover of the carpark and MUGA pitch and running track … but not long now!

By that point we will have  a new road layout with a one-way system sign-posted in the carpark. However we already have enough parking spaces available to implement some new arrangements.

From tomorrow, Friday 17th Aug, all the disabled access spaces will be active and reserved for Blue-Badge holders. Parking for all other staff and visitors will only be available in marked parking bays.

There will be a bike shed  erected in the area beside the front path and the area immediately in front of the main building will be reserved as a drop-off zone.

We will cone off areas to assist staff and visitors, and staff will be present to direct cars over the next few days. Once the road-markings are added it will be clearer but we will be directing cars in the one-way plan. However be extra vigilant, particularly until the signage is in place, as some people will not be aware of the new procedures.

I would still recommend that parents drop pupils off and pick them up outside the school grounds but if you are entering, please note:

  • only Blue-Badge holders will be able to come along the road in front of the main doors.
  • only Blue-Badge holders will be able to park in the disabled access spaces
  • all parking must be within a marked parking space.
  • you will be directed in a one-way approach to the drop-off zones and soon there will be signage to clarify that.
  • You will not be able to park in the drop-off zone. If you require to stop and wait or come into school, please use a parking bay.

I hope that we will make the adjustment quickly and easily to the new arrangements and appreciate everyone’s cooperation and support.  At the end of the day, your child’s safety is our first concern and this should improve the access arrangemnts for everyone.

This Car park plan may – or may not! – help clarify the arrangements.
