S1 ENGLISH 

 

COURSE:

In Barrhead High School all S1 classes follow the same broad course outline. We continue to develop the skills of READING, WRITING, TALKING and LISTENING from primary. The pupils move through the CfE levels aiming to overtake 3rd level experiences and outcomes by the end of S2.

Pupils will have access to the library once a week.

ASSESSMENT:

Pupils will be assessed across the two years. Assessment will be both formative and summative. The pupils will be assessed on all the skills—READING, WRITING, TALKING and LISTENING. The assessments, however, will be at different times for different pupils. Parents are encouraged to check pupil diaries for dates.

HOMEWORK:

All pupils will have AT LEAST one piece of English homework per week. The pupils will be expected to complete each task in their homework jotter. The homework booklet can be accessed through the link below.

In addition all pupils are expected to have a personal reader with them in class.

At certain points the pupils will have class related homework to complete. Dates and deadlines will be copied into the diaries.

In the 2nd term all pupils will have an Independent Reading Project to complete.
