Budgeting

After yesterday’s launch of Primary 7’s Make £5 Grow project, we decided that we’d benefit from some learning about budgeting our money efficiently.

7.27 were given a £2000 budget and had the task of planning which house to rent, paying for food shopping, putting money into savings, choosing entertainment and deciding whether or not they’d like a pet!

They seemed to really value the discount coupons that they found…

We now understand the importance of budgeting when planning to make a purchase, can carry out calculations using the four operations and compare prices from different retailers!

As we move through our project we should be able to understand the benefits and risks of using bank cards to obtain money and make purchases, and use the terms profit and loss in buying and selling. (We are hoping to use the term profit a bit more!)

These tasks are invaluable in developing skills for learning, life and work and preparing our children for their future after Mearns Primary.

We will keep you updated with our progress through this project and will hopefully see some of you at the Christmas Fayre on 7th December where we will be selling our products and/or services…
