Terrariums

Following on from our work on the Water Cycle, we decided to carry out a scientific experiment to see if we could create a water cycle model inside a glass jar – a terrarium.  Mrs James explained that as we were sealing the jars with the lids, this would create a tropical environment within the jar.

We collected small stones for drainage, we gathered soil and moss to help absorb excess moisture.  We then planted small fern plants inside the jars.

Hopefully, the water will evaporate, causing condensation on the surface of the glass which will then drop back onto the fern to water it.  As it is an experiment we will need to wait and see if it works!
