Den Building Part 2

As part of our Outdoor Learning work, we evaluated how successful our shelter building was when we used the playground.  We discussed in our teams what worked and what did not work so well.  We discussed the skills that our team members used to successfully create a shelter or the problems that we encountered that meant we were not successful.

We then used this discussion as a basis for planning our Den Building Part 2!  Who was good at tying knots and could fill that role again?  What equipment would we need? Who was able to problem solve quickly when things were not working out as planned?

Then we tried again….this time on the grassy patch at the other side of the pitch.

Outdoor Learning – Den Building

At the start of term we headed outside to build shelters in the playground.  Resources were limited to loose branches, tarps, pegs and string.

We had to work together as a team to discuss and plan our shelters and then we worked together to build them.  It was quite tricky!

When our building time was over we had a look at the dens that the other teams had made.  Some team members had to stay behind as they were holding up the tarps!  Mrs James explained that that was part of her plan.  She repeatedly said to us to use our team!  Even though resources were limited we had to work together using each team member to be successful.

Here are our shelters.
