Cooking Scotland – Vegetarian Haggis Neeps and Tatties 🏴󠁧󠁒󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿

Today our first group of Gastronomers was in the kitchen and worked together in groups to make the first of our Scottish dishes.

We began with wrapping the vegetarian haggis in tinfoil and placing it into boiling water to cook for 30 minutes. We then cut and prepared potatoes and neeps before adding them to a pot to cook.

We then chopped ingredients for the peppercorn sauce including onions, shallots and spring onions.

Afterwards, we placed these into a pan with butter and cooked them until golden, we then added cream, vegetable stock and pepper.

We spooned the finished sauce on top of our haggis and mashed potatoes and neeps.

We can’t wait for our next week of Gastronomers πŸ˜„πŸ΄σ §σ ’σ ³σ £σ ΄σ Ώ

Writing Fact Files ✏️

We have been enjoying our new class topic, The Seven Wonders of the Modern World and today we created Fact Files after researching on the Chromebooks.

We included lots of interesting facts including the country and continent where the Wonder of the World is located, how many visitors there are each year, how old it is and some fun facts.

We learnt about the structure of writing a fact file and using sub-headings to help us layout all of the information that we found.

Place Value Outdoors πŸƒ

This morning in Primary 5.17 we took our maths learning outdoors and used natural resources to help us practice place value.

Our groups collected leaves, small sticks, rocks, acorns and seeds and used these to represent numbers in our place value chart.

We set challenges for others in our group by reading numbers aloud and writing them on our whiteboards 🌳🍁πŸͺ¨

Our first week in Primary 5.17 🌟

We have had a very busy and exciting first week in P5.17.

We began by creating our Class Charter which is based on the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child. We selected 4 articles which were most important to our class and discussed how we will uphold these through the year.

In literacy, we have began revision of punctuation and started our new class novel, Beetle Boy by M.G.Leonard.

We have been enjoying our Daily Mile and spending time in our new classroom.

We can’t wait for more learning and new experiences over the coming weeks.

Place value problem solving

The weather picked up a little, and although the ground was wet from heavy showers this morning we were able to take our jackets off and enjoy a warm dry afternoon of learning.

Using number stones and rainbow sticks we worked in teams to solve a number of challenges we were set. They really got us talking and thinking and Mrs Kelly was impressed with how we tackled the different problems together.

Analysing, colour matching and outdoor painting

What a very warm afternoon out in the sunshine we enjoyed today, thank goodness we are so lucky to have so many trees give us shade as we work right enough!

We started off our lesson by searching the whole area to colour match against some old supermarket brochures. This helped us really analyse the amazing colours that are all around us.

After that we used natural materials to create these beautiful and bright daisies.

Outdoor investigating and analysing

Today we explored a large area of the school grounds in search of mini beasts. We began with playing some games and noting down the names of mini beasts we knew.

After that we went on to search for some and took some photos of them where they seemed to enjoy living.

Finally we collected some to have a closer look and analysed them using a magnifying glass. We were all so curious and delighted at what detail we could see!

Outdoor rounding and multiples of ten

We spent time today reinforcing our understanding of rounding numbers to the nearest ten and adding and subtracting multiples of ten. We did this through various games and challenges which involved listening carefully to instructions and concentrating on each action we had to take. Here are some photographs of our activities and learning.
