Week beginning – 25th September

Unfortunately we weren’t in school for most of this week due to strike action.

Most of the class accessed online learning through our google classroom which was great. We covered our usual timetable as much as we could with PE lessons, STEM challenges, reading challenges, daily maths activities and an extended writing piece.

Cracking Co-ordinates 🧮

We have been working hard on developing our confidence in co-ordinates this week.
We have been learning the ‘along the corridor, up the stairs’ rule to help us identify points on the x and y axis.

Today we were plotting points and joining them together to create an emoji 😍

Place Value Outdoors 🍃

This morning in Primary 5.17 we took our maths learning outdoors and used natural resources to help us practice place value.

Our groups collected leaves, small sticks, rocks, acorns and seeds and used these to represent numbers in our place value chart.

We set challenges for others in our group by reading numbers aloud and writing them on our whiteboards 🌳🍁🪨

Outdoor time

The sun shone all afternoon for us as we enjoyed learning about time outside today.

We played some warm up games to remind us about direction before moving on to making some numbers for our giant clock.

After that we talked about how the minute hand and hour hand move round the clock….

before making our own little clocks and playing some games with them showing how the hands on a clock move.

We then played a time hunt game where we had great fun hiding and searching for times to put on our giant clock.

Outdoor angle investigations

Today we learned all about acute, right, obtuse and straight angles. We learned to identify them, tell the difference between them, make them and then use them to make shapes. We did all this through playing games and investigating outside.
