Creativity

This week in P5.18 we played with construction toys, learning about 3D shape and materials.  We also made Christmas Cards that we are able to buy once they are sent away. We painted Dias for Diwali  in the art room with bright metallic paints.

We also started our new Mearns Masters called Gastronomers  also known as cooking. We made shortbread, it was tasty. One half of the class went but the other stayed and wrote about shortbread and the recipe.

This Thursday the oak group is going to a movie as a reward for winning the house points for Term 1. On Friday all of us are going to a movie! We are very excited!

A Busy Week…..

We have been busy this week….

In PE  we played a game called bench ball which is a different version of Netball. There are 2 are two teams and on the bench there are 3 or 4 people on the bench. There is 1 bib team and 1 non-bib team. On the bench, if you are the non- bib team you try and dribble or do a lot of passes, and then try and get to the bib-bench, try pass to a person on the bench, then your team gets 1 point! So that is basically that is how you play the game. We all really enjoyed it.

This week we did perspective art and it was fantastic. Lots of us have had another go and even tried it at home.

Our next Mearns Masters block is ‘The Gastronomers’ and we have been really looking forward to this. Group 1 made shortbread this week which was delicious. We were so pleased with how our creation turned out. Next week is Group 2’s turn. Over the coming weeks, up until Christmas, we will be cooking different dishes and learning new skills in the kitchen.

We had a very interesting and important assembly about Remembrance Day and we observed a one minute silence on Friday 11th November.

We are also very excited about our upcoming cinema trip next Friday!

Black History Month

We have been learning about racism and black history. We have learned that Britain was racist and many rich people had plantations which grew with tobacco, sugar and cotton. African people were stolen away from their homes and forced to the West Indies where they made to be slaves.

We also learned about when slavery was abolished in Scotland and abroad.  We put the dates in order in a timeline.

Kho Kho and Digital Learning

We have been playing Kho Kho. It is a game where there is half of the players split into teams. There are runners and chasers. People from India normally play this game.

How to Play

Runners can run any where in the circle and the chasers can only run on one side and the other chasers sit on the line and if the other chasers are facing the right the chasers tap them on the back and then they go to the right side to catch the runners.

Digital Learning

We have been learning scratch and we have been learning how to use Jam boards. we’ve been learning typing club. Mr McKenna has changed it so we randomly pick were we go.

As mentioned, we had a special assembly to commemorate the Queen on Wednesday and we were also treated to cucumber sandwiches and shortbread.

We have continued to enjoy coding with Scratch and have begun designing an interactive story with an interactive title. Mrs Montgomery is super impressed with our coding skills!

In maths and literacy, we have been working hard as always. We were practising our uplevelling skills in writing by adding openers and WOW words to sentences this week.

On Friday afternoon , we were learning new skills needed to play netball. Already some of the class are very good at scoring a goal!
