STEM

On Monday 3 visitors came to talk about STEM.  We made towers from 5 paper plates and 1 metre of tape. Then, James came to give a very interesting talk about his job which was cyber security. Then we thought about renewable energy.

On Tuesday we made a space capsule  and we worked in teams . Then we chuted them over the balcony and the slowest

On Wednesday we did science with the Royal Society of Chemistry and learned about water proofing.

It has been a very informative week and we have learned lots!

Thus week in 5.18…..

On Tuesday because of the atrocious weather outside we did just dance inside for P.E and on Wednesday we were allowed to wear a Christmas jumper or accessory.

In Mearns Masters, we made yummy soup last week and this week, half of the class made Cranachan. The other half will make it next Thursday.

On Friday, we were treated to a dance show by the dance club which was very entertaining!

A Busy Week…..

We have been busy this week….

In PE  we played a game called bench ball which is a different version of Netball. There are 2 are two teams and on the bench there are 3 or 4 people on the bench. There is 1 bib team and 1 non-bib team. On the bench, if you are the non- bib team you try and dribble or do a lot of passes, and then try and get to the bib-bench, try pass to a person on the bench, then your team gets 1 point! So that is basically that is how you play the game. We all really enjoyed it.

This week we did perspective art and it was fantastic. Lots of us have had another go and even tried it at home.

Our next Mearns Masters block is ‘The Gastronomers’ and we have been really looking forward to this. Group 1 made shortbread this week which was delicious. We were so pleased with how our creation turned out. Next week is Group 2’s turn. Over the coming weeks, up until Christmas, we will be cooking different dishes and learning new skills in the kitchen.

We had a very interesting and important assembly about Remembrance Day and we observed a one minute silence on Friday 11th November.

We are also very excited about our upcoming cinema trip next Friday!

As mentioned, we had a special assembly to commemorate the Queen on Wednesday and we were also treated to cucumber sandwiches and shortbread.

We have continued to enjoy coding with Scratch and have begun designing an interactive story with an interactive title. Mrs Montgomery is super impressed with our coding skills!

In maths and literacy, we have been working hard as always. We were practising our uplevelling skills in writing by adding openers and WOW words to sentences this week.

On Friday afternoon , we were learning new skills needed to play netball. Already some of the class are very good at scoring a goal!
