Mental health and emotional wellbeing –

It is OK not to feel OK, many people of all ages will struggle with a mental health issue at some point in their life.

Emotional – or mental – health is linked to personal wellbeing – feeling positive about yourself. Being emotionally healthy includes:

  • having self-esteem and self-respect
  • being able to recognise and express feelings
  • being able to manage emotions to suit the situation
  • recognising and managing the factors that affect emotions
  • feeling positive about life (which includes feeling useful and being optimistic about the future)
During the school year pupils will feel low and anxious, especially during this pandemic. You may also feel at a loss as to where to get help. Within in the school the following is available:
  • Your Pastoral Care teacher either , Mr Hendrie, Miss Henry, Mrs McBride or Mrs Britton all know how hard school can be be and are happy to help.
  • Within the school your Head teacher, Deputy Head teacher and class teachers are all supportive and happy to listen to your problems.
  • At school you can also access support from  the Wellbeing teacher, Mrs Wallace.
  • If you feel you need more help there is a school counsellor available in the school 2 days a week who could also provide help and advice.

Breathing Space operates a confidential free helpline offering advice on a number of mental health issues including anxiety and depression.

Weekdays: Open Mon- Thurs, 6pm-2am
Weekends: Fri 6pm – Mon 6am

The helpline is for young people who are not already accessing support for their mental health through other services, and it cannot support young people in crisis. As well as this service, the Child and Adolescent Mental Health Service continues to take referrals from GPs and other healthcare professionals, please seek further help if you need it.
