School Motto

Our school motto, ‘Haud Tae The Lair’  translates from old Scots to ‘Keep The Learning Close’.

School Values

Our school values are:
– Happy and Safe
– Respectful
– Actively Achieving

‘Excellent Learning’

At Shortlees we aim to provide the highest quality learning experiences – this is displayed in every classroom and shows how we hope to achieve excellent learning.

Houses

Your child will be in one of our four ‘houses’. Each team gains points when pupils put our school values into action!

The house logos were designed by pupils with the following meanings:

The Kilmarnock Railway Viaduct

‘Belonging to Kilmarnock and building bridges with other communities.’

Squirrel with a book

‘Kilmarnock’s heritage and history, but also shaping the future.’

Hands shaking

‘Friendship and teamwork.’

Tree leading into a pencil

‘Eco friendly school and learners.’

School Mascot

Our school mascots are called “Shorty” and “Sheree”. Pupils will see them appear on worksheets, displays and interactive presentations.

Shorty will usually tell the pupils about their learning and Sheree will provide details on how they can be successful throughout lessons.

Digital Schools Award

We are aiming for our Digital Schools award, our COVES group, The Digital Leaders are helping us achieve this.

The Digital Leaders designed a new Internet Safety Poster to make sure that pupils at Shortlees stay safe online!
