End of Term 1

We can’t believe that it is the end of Term 1 already.

This week we have been learning how to measure different items in our class using rulers,meter sticks and measuring tapes. We have been practising our times tables and completed a challenge to see how much we have improved. We also read some more of our book study and completed some work based on it.

On Wednesday some of our P7’s led our Harvest Service  and they were marvelous.  We had the Harvest Hush-in where we all had to be silent for 1 hour.

This afternoon we are doing a presentation for Janet which some of the P6/7’s will help to lead.

Weekly Round-up

This week we have been learning about subtraction with exchange. We have completed lots of difficult calculations and trying really hard.

We learned to do one point perspective art work and created beautiful harvest fields.

In literacy we were learning about the spelling rule ‘ti’ for the ‘sh’ sound. We also wrote about a fairground for descriptive writing. We read some more of our novel study ‘Holes’.

On Wednesday we have our John Muir Morning and every house went to explore a different area of Catrine and completed some fun challenges.

Weekly Round-up

We’ve had a busy few weeks in P6/7. We have been continuing to read more of our class novel ‘Holes’.  We have also been learning about past, present and future tense in grammar.
In numeracy we have been revising our addition and subtraction strategies. We loved having some of the family members in to join us & take part in some of our numeracy activities on Wednesday morning.
Some of our class have been taking it in turns to lead our PE sessions this term, as we continue to develop our football skills. They have set up some fabulous drills & games for us try.

Weekly Round-up

This week we started reading our new novel study called ‘Holes’. We were learning to use the cover of the book to complete our prior knowledge about the book. We have been learning to use more ambitious vocabulary in our writing especially when describing characters.

In numeracy we have been revising addition with carrying. We have been continuing to work on our times tables and we were learning about co-ordinates.

We were learning about landscape art and created our very own landscape pictures. In science we learned about chromatography and completed our own experiments.

On Wednesday we went to our new committee groups for the first meeting of the year.

Kaylie and Georgia also represented us at the Clean Green Climate Conference and have already started our action plan with the aim of achieving our Clean Green Bronze Award.

 

Weekly Round-up

This week we were learning about descriptive vocabulary in writing and we were creating a list of words to describe Miss Trunchbull. We were learning about different spelling rules. We also read the next few chapters of ‘They Change’ and we were learning about inference.

In numeracy we were learning about place value and rounding and have been working on our times tables with Mrs Schendel. In PE we were learning about fitness and basketball.

We had Home Circles for the first time and we were learning about Article 12 and the right to express your views and be taken seriously. We also found out the new house captains for this year.

Weekly Round-up

This week in maths we have been doing rounding, place value, partitioning and maths activities. In literacy we were doing prefixes, homophones and reading ‘They Change’ and we wrote a summary about what has happened so far. In Gym we have started basketball with Mrs McCaig and we were also playing some games.  We were making our class charter display and we mixed the themes so it will be a mix of football and Disney for it. Our P7s were reading their captain speeches this afternoon to see who will get captain for their house.

First Week in P6/7

We have had a brilliant first week in P6/7.

On Monday, we created our ‘Who am I?’ display. We typed up different clues about ourselves, drew a self portrait and have displayed these around the school for others to read and see if they can guess who we are.

We started reading a short story called ‘They Change’ –  we have read up to chapter 4 and can’t wait to find out what happens next. We have been looking at homophones in spelling and have already started to explore what the different words mean.

In numeracy we have been learning to round numbers to the nearest 10, 100, 1000, 10000 and beyond. We have been learning about place value and writing down the value of different digits.

In PE we were playing a variety of fun games.

P7 were excited to get to see and help their P1 buddy settle into their first week at school.

P7 have already started thinking about their speeches for School Captain.
