This week we have been continuing with our book study, we have been learning to find and pick out the key information from the text to answer questions accurately. We have been learning to form our letters correctly in handwriting, in preparation for learning to join our writing. We have also been learning about similes, alliteration and personification to improve our writing.

In numeracy we have been continuing to work on addition & subtraction with exchange.

In science we were learning about the impact of pollution & plastic on the food chain. We were also learning how to change the size and colour of the font in ICT as well as changing the text alignment.

This week we have been learning about different spelling rules and patterns. We were learning that ‘ti’ also makes the ‘sh’ sound. We were also learning to pick out the main events in a text as part of our book study. In writing we were learning to use descriptive language to describe a jungle scene.

In numeracy we were learning to complete addition calculations, as well as revising our times tables.

Our P5s took part in their CAMPS project again and this week they were learning a dance to go along with their song.

We have also been learning to use PowerPoint in ICT and how to use the designer tool to make our slides look more appealing.

In PE we have been continuing with our fitness block and improving our technique. We have also been developing our skipping skills with Mrs Cook.

It’s been another busy week in P5/6. This week we have been learning to write a summary using our novel study.

We have been continuing to work on rounding numbers to the nearest 10, 100 and 1000. We were also practising our times tables through our Multiplication Masters.

We were learning all about predators and prey in science and we created our own predator profiles.
We have been working on improving our fitness in PE and in ICT we were learning to access GLOW.
We also took part in some teamwork challenges where we were focussing on our communication skills.

This week in P5/6 we have been learning about prefixes as part of our spelling. We have also been reading our book study ‘Holes’ and completed a visualisation and inference task. We were learning to use figurative language such as similes in our writing and created our very own Paint Box poems.

In numeracy we were learning more about the value of the digits, including decimal fractions. We were also beginning to round numbers to the nearest 10, 100 and 1000. In Number Talks we were revising the ‘Adding up in chunks’ strategy.

We have now split into 2 groups for our CAMPS workshop, so Primary 5 went along again this week and were learning to use their voice effectively and change the tone and pitch of what they are saying. They were also working on improving their singing by focussing on being able to sing in the right pitch.

This week in science we were learning about food chains and how energy is transferred. We then created our own food chains.

It’s been a very busy week in P5/6.

This week we have been continuing to work on our understanding of place value. We have also been learning to use the Reordering strategy in Number Talks, where we change the order of the numbers in the calculation to make it easier to calculate.

In literacy we have been learning about homophones. We have been learning how to look up the meaning of different words in the dictionary and then use the words in the correct context. We also started our book study ‘Holes’ and completed our first reading strategy, Prior Knowledge based on this.

We also met and took part in a workshop with Cammy, Gregor and Olivia from CAMPS, who are going to be teaching us all about musical theatre. We will be exploring music, drama and dance through their workshops.

We worked together to create our values poster for achieving and nurture and had some excellent examples of how we demonstrate this in Catrine Primary.

Our PE days will be on a Monday and Wednesday this year. Please ensure that everyone has their PE kit on these days and that all jewellery is removed.

It has been such a lovely first week back. We have had lots of fun getting to know everyone in our class. This week we have created our visual timetable cards, created our Class Charter and made birthday cards, so we are prepared for the special occasions as they arrive.

We also started looking at place value in numeracy and completed our first Number Talks where we looked at partitioning. We were also revising our letter formation before we start to work on joining our handwriting.
