End of Term 1

Term 1

Well done to all of our learners on a very successful term one! It has flown in, we have had lots of fun bonding as a new p3/4 class and have worked hard in all areas.

We know term 2 will be just as busy! We look forward to starting our whole school leadership groups, a new topic and taking part in the Ochiltree Nativity performance.

Have a lovely October break everyone!

Autumn Amble

Despite some drizzly conditions Primary 3/4 thoroughly enjoyed their Autumn amble through the village!

We focused on using our senses to describe what we could see, hear, smell, taste and feel along our walk.

‘I smell delicious chips coming from the hub!’ Oliver

‘I think I can smell soup!’ Wallace

‘I can see bright orange leaves’ Molly

‘I see my house!’ Lottie

‘I can feel raindrops’ Illy

‘I can smell the leaves of this green hedge’ Peyton

‘I can feel the wet grass under my feet’ Finley.

We also managed to sneak in a wee play at the park!

Back in class

Back in school we have been learning the different phonemes that make the ‘ai’ sound (ai/ay/a-e/a).

We are learning to add on and take away multiples of ten and one hundred. (e.g. 125 + 50 or 1678 + 300). We have been singing away about not changing the units.

We have used our senses to write descriptively and thoroughly enjoyed some music from Mrs MJ.

Notes to remember

Our Parents Evening is Thursday 9th of October. Please contact the school office if you have not received an appointment time yet.

We finish up on Friday 10th of October for the October holidays, please note Mrs Meek will not be in this day and the class will be taken by Miss Smith.

What have we been learning this week?

Click on the SWAY above to see some snaps of our recent learning.

We have been continuing with place value in numeracy. We got outdoors to create a giant place value grid and we became the digit values.  We even have been singing about 10 more/10 less. Ask us if we can remember!

We’ve been busy in PE, improving our ball skills and learning how to jump safely.

Our topic focus is owls and we learned how owls have adapted to become good birds of prey.

We have been using interesting adjectives to write about the dark, this ties in with our Novel study.

Remember this week we have our sponsored walk on Wednesday.

Parents night is Thursday 9th of October. Keep an eye out on the App for further information.

Check out the homework tab for this week’s tasks.

September update

What have we been up to?

We have been working so hard in all areas, we’ve been so busy we haven’t had the chance to take many photographs of our learning unfortunately.

We have been enjoying reading our class novel and have been using our reading pups to make sense of what we have read. Ask your child about ‘Predicting Pip’ and ‘Vocabulary Viktor’.

We have been learning about owls and have created some excellent art work with Miss Smith. Can we tell you some things that owls eat? I wonder if we can remember something that makes them be an excellent predator…

In numeracy we have been learning mental strategies for addition with Mrs Tweedly and have been working on number sequences with Mrs Meek. We have been looking at the patterns created when finding 1/1/100 more or less than a given number. This is something that can be practised at home. Start with 2 digits and work your way higher if confident. See the task grid below-

August 2025

Pupils have settled well into their new classroom and routines.

All pupils have had the chance to take part in team building activities working with a range of groups. We are settling down to numeracy and literacy tasks, and have began our class novel ‘The owl who was afraid of the dark’.’

Our topic for the first few weeks is Owls and other nocturnal animals. Pupils are thoroughly enjoying STEM with Mrs Rooney on a Friday and Health and Wellbeing with Mrs Cunningham on Mondays.

Please look out for our termly overview which will be uploaded in due course.

Look at our SWAY for some pictures of what we have been up to.
