Good morning everyone! This is a special day as it is April Fools Day today. I wonder if anything strange has been happening in your house? One of my hens would like to say good morning to you all!!!
Make repeating patterns using different objects in the house or in the garden
Fill in missing numbers in a number line to 20
Topic
Go on a sensory walk (or in the garden) and note what you can see, hear, smell, touch and taste.
Write 1 sentence for each of your senses.
Using a tablet or a piece of paper design an Easter egg
Writing
Write a fiction story about Harris the puffin
Reading: BugClub – read and talk about the story
Common words
Can you please help your child learn to recognise these words by writing them (bubble writing, colourful writing, squiggly writing, fancy writing) or with materials outside. Drawing a line around each word and looking at the shape of the word. Talking about tall and small letters. You can use your magnetic letters to say, make, read and write these words.
Sounds
Say, make, break, blend, read and write using words from the list. Your child will be able to tell you what to do!
Don’t show your child the word, just say it to them. Use the magnetic board. You could take turn about with each word.
Writing
Fictional writing
Use the table below to plan out the story. Each box will have 1 or more sentences and then write it all out as 1 piece of writing. If your child just wants to write 1 sentence for each box, this is fine. Draw a picture of your story. (The children know the character Harris from a book called Harris The Hero.)
Write your common words using chalk outside. If you don’t have a garden or chalk you could write your words using fancy letters or colourful writing instead.
Reading Questions
Read your reading book again and complete the following questions/tasks.
Who are the characters in your book?
Who is your favourite character in the story?
Draw a picture of your favourite character and write a few sentences explaining why.
Think of your favourite character in the book and describe what they look like.
Maths
Try working on missing number problems. This time you could try some subtraction calculations. Calculations within 10 and within 20 to challenge. e.g
8 – ? = 5 7 – ? = 3 14 – ? = 10
5 – ? = 1 20 – ? = 10 19 – ? = 18
10 – ? = 5 12 – ? = 6 3 – ? = 1
Ask a grown up to make some more missing number problems.
You can use cubes or counters or make a number line to help you.

2. Can you please write 3 sentences. Each one containing a different common word.
3. Number: Can you see how many different ways you can make 6. e.g. 8-2, 3+3. To help you could use concrete materials like dried beans or stones. Lets see how many ways your child can come up with.
As you all probably know I am very keen on the outdoors, the wildlife and the environment. This is a chance to really let your child become absorbed in what is around them. An idea I have is to find a tree, it could be in your garden, a park or in the street. Look at this tree and study the changes that are taking place over the next few weeks, as there will be many. Make bark rubbings, look for insects/birds that visit this tree. Measure, in hand spans, the circumference of the trunk. Measure the buds as they grow. Draw the buds and when the leaves begin to appear. You could create a really nice piece of work all about a tree. Remember to find out what species of tree it is!
There is a nice App i use in P1 when the weather improves called iRecord. On it you can record what you find in your local environment. Have a go if you are able. Children really enjoy it as it is part of Citizen Science.
Please see the above graphic about how to access Teams, where there will be information made available for supporting your childs’ learning.
I’m having difficulty making the graphic clear so if it is unreadable you can also see it on the class blog.
