Your common words this week are:-

out,          now,             new

  1. Can you please help your child learn to recognise these words by writing them (bubble writing, colourful writing, squiggly writing, fancy writing). Drawing a line around each word and looking at the shape of the word. Talk about tall and small letters. You can use your magnetic letters to say, make, read and write these words.

2. Can you please write 3 sentences. Each one containing a different common word.

3. Number: Can you see how many different ways you can make 6.  e.g. 8-2, 3+3. To help you could use concrete materials like dried beans or stones. Lets see how many ways your child can come up with.

As you all probably know I am very keen on the outdoors, the wildlife and the environment. This is a chance to really let your child become absorbed in what is around them. An idea I have is to find a tree, it could be in your garden, a park or in the street. Look at this tree and study the changes that are taking place over the next few weeks, as there will be many. Make bark rubbings, look for insects/birds that visit this tree. Measure, in hand spans, the circumference of the trunk. Measure the buds as they grow. Draw the buds and when the leaves begin to appear. You could create a really nice piece of work all about a tree. Remember to find out what species of tree it is!

There is a nice App i use in P1 when the weather improves called iRecord. On it you can record what you find in your local environment. Have a go if you are able. Children really enjoy it as it is part of Citizen Science.
