Summer Holidays!

I wanted to say another big THANK YOU to everyone for your lovely end of year presents, kind cards and beautiful pictures, they are so appreciated.

I have enjoyed teaching everyone so much and am so so proud of every single boy and girl in my class because you have all worked so hard and have grown so much this year!

I can’t wait to teach all of the Primary 1s in Primary 2 again and am sad to have to pass the Primary 3s on to a different class. I know everyone will do a brilliant job though.

I wish you all a lovely summer break full of adventures, experiences and exciting things to tell me about when you come back to school in August. I love hearing all the news!

We have had an amazing celebration week for our school’s 50th birthday!

Unfortunately I had little time to take pictures outside of the classroom but Miss Gorman has shared celebration pictures on the school blog.

Thank you so so much for your very kind and thoughtful gifts for me. I’m so touched and grateful, thank you. I can’t wait to visit the wool shop and enjoy an afternoon tea!

Here is a very small summary of just a few things we have been doing.

We had a great celebration afternoon on Friday:

We also did lots of fun work in the classroom and outside this week and last week!

We had a visit from Archaeology Scotland last week and made flowers from toilet paper for Miss Gorman’s jacket that she wore on Tuesday for our archaeology presentation.

We also made good use of the good weather:

Home Learning Week beginning 1st July

We are continuing to work with our spelling words from last week as we were so busy with all of our Health activities that we didn’t get much of a chance to practise our spelling. So please practise last week’s words at home again.

In Maths, Primary 1s were comparing numbers to 20 last week. We looked at larger / smaller numbers and found the largest / the smallest number out of a range of numbers. This week we are looking at ordering numbers from smallest to largest / largest to smallest.

Please cut the number cards apart and do some of the suggested activities. You can keep the cards and activities at home.

Primary 2s have been practising their 2 times table.

Cut out the flashcards and time your child to see how many times table sums they can answer in 30s. Record their score on the sheet below with the date to show how they improved over the week.

Class Update

It has been a very busy 2 weeks for us. Last week, Archaeology Scotland came back for a visit and this week was our Health week.

We read stories about the past and learned about the Bronze age and the Ochiltree Urn with Archaeology Scotland. We learned how we can record our knowledge and how to make pots similar to the Ochiltree urn.

In art, we have been looking at making collages. We want to make a big collage of the old and the new school to show you some of the things we have learned when you come into school for our 50th anniversary celebration.

On Tuesday, we had some football instruction from our Active Schools team. We then cooled off in the shade of our timber trail.

On Thursday, we had a day of potted sports and indoor activities all around summer.

We also practised our Sports Day races. Hopefully our Sports Day will be able to take place this afternoon!

Homework week beginning 25th May

*Homework folders will be given out tomorrow, sorry!*

This week, Primary 1s are revising the /ch/ /sh/ and /th/ sounds. Primary 2s are learning the /ee/ sound made by using the magic e (<e_e>).

As always, the words are in the word list jotters together with Monday’s spell check. Please practise these words at home.

I have updated our reading lists on Boost Learning. Please use this website to practise your reading. The books underpin what we are working on in class.

This week, there will be no further maths task. However, the school is running an art competition for our 50th anniversary. Maybe you would like to make a submission? Parents and anyone from the community are welcome to make their own submission, too!

Homework for week beginning 18th May

This week, Primary 1s are learning <th>. Primary 2s are looking at /ai/ made by the grapheme <a>.

As always, please choose one or more activities from your activity sheet to practise your spelling words. We will be doing our spell check on Monday.

In Maths, Primary 1s are focussing on counting to 20 this week. Primary 2s are starting to learn the 2 times table!

You can go on Sumdog and practise your maths there or play one of the games below:

Primary 1: Okta’s Rescue (choose Level 3)

Primary 2: Hit the Button (Choose times tables to 20 and then ‘x2’)

We are also taking our clocks home with us. You could practise making times (P1 – o’clock and half past  / P2 – same as P1 and quarter past/quarter to).

Science Centre Trip

We had a brilliant time at the Science Centre today.

We left school first thing this morning.

We spent time exploring all the different experiments when we arrived. The whole class enjoyed the Science play area but we also looked around the other activities.

Then we had our lunch which was a highlight for many of us!

In the afternoon we visited the planetarium and learned all about the stars and some of our planets. It was amazing to travel to Venus, Saturn and Pluto!

Homework for week of 11/5/26

Pupils will have received their new word lists in their word list jotters. Our spell check from last week is also stuck into these jotters.

Primary 1s are focussing on /ch/ this week, while P2s are looking at the magic e with the letter a (/a_e/).

As always, please highlight the sound or use diacritical marking (click here for a short video explaining this concept) to help with reading and spelling. Then choose one or more activities from your list to practise your words.

In maths, Primary 1s have started looking at numbers to 20. We are focussing on number formation and counting this week. Please complete the worksheet in your homework folders and return it on Monday. Use a pencil and a paperclip to spin and practise saying the number.

Here is a YouTube short to explain how the spinner works in case your child doesn’t remember: https://www.youtube.com/shorts/-1vKdFAOryQ

Primary 2s have started looking at the concept of multiplication. We are practising repeated addition this week. Play the game with a partner and practise identifying repeated addition in arrays.

Class Update Week of 4/5/26

This has been a very short week for us in class but we were still very busy!

On Tuesday, we enjoyed having our PE lesson outside together with the P3/4 class. We practised our batting and aiming skills, worked in a team and improved our balance and movements.

Even though we didn’t get any homework this week, we still worked hard on our spelling and maths. We started looking at numbers to 20 in P1 and multiplication in P2. We are also still practising telling the time and did time activities on Friday.

We also got the chance to play in our play area every day (as usual). We are developing social skills, as well as creativity, communication and problem solving skills when we play with others.

Class Update Week beginning 27th April

This week we have continued to look at our book The Snail and the Whale. We also practised our spelling with different activities. In Maths, we practised telling the time.

In Art, we made beautiful sunflowers using drawing and colouring techniques. We then used tissue paper to add texture to the sunflowers.

We enjoyed practising different Badminton games.

We also had lots of play opportunities inside and outside.

We ended the week with a special story time with our P6/7 buddies who had written a book for us. We got to take the books home with us, too!
