Homework for week beginning 18th May

This week, Primary 1s are learning <th>. Primary 2s are looking at /ai/ made by the grapheme <a>.

As always, please choose one or more activities from your activity sheet to practise your spelling words. We will be doing our spell check on Monday.

In Maths, Primary 1s are focussing on counting to 20 this week. Primary 2s are starting to learn the 2 times table!

You can go on Sumdog and practise your maths there or play one of the games below:

Primary 1: Okta’s Rescue (choose Level 3)

Primary 2: Hit the Button (Choose times tables to 20 and then ‘x2’)

We are also taking our clocks home with us. You could practise making times (P1 – o’clock and half past  / P2 – same as P1 and quarter past/quarter to).

Science Centre Trip

We had a brilliant time at the Science Centre today.

We left school first thing this morning.

We spent time exploring all the different experiments when we arrived. The whole class enjoyed the Science play area but we also looked around the other activities.

Then we had our lunch which was a highlight for many of us!

In the afternoon we visited the planetarium and learned all about the stars and some of our planets. It was amazing to travel to Venus, Saturn and Pluto!

Homework for week of 11/5/26

Pupils will have received their new word lists in their word list jotters. Our spell check from last week is also stuck into these jotters.

Primary 1s are focussing on /ch/ this week, while P2s are looking at the magic e with the letter a (/a_e/).

As always, please highlight the sound or use diacritical marking (click here for a short video explaining this concept) to help with reading and spelling. Then choose one or more activities from your list to practise your words.

In maths, Primary 1s have started looking at numbers to 20. We are focussing on number formation and counting this week. Please complete the worksheet in your homework folders and return it on Monday. Use a pencil and a paperclip to spin and practise saying the number.

Here is a YouTube short to explain how the spinner works in case your child doesn’t remember: https://www.youtube.com/shorts/-1vKdFAOryQ

Primary 2s have started looking at the concept of multiplication. We are practising repeated addition this week. Play the game with a partner and practise identifying repeated addition in arrays.

Class Update Week of 4/5/26

This has been a very short week for us in class but we were still very busy!

On Tuesday, we enjoyed having our PE lesson outside together with the P3/4 class. We practised our batting and aiming skills, worked in a team and improved our balance and movements.

Even though we didn’t get any homework this week, we still worked hard on our spelling and maths. We started looking at numbers to 20 in P1 and multiplication in P2. We are also still practising telling the time and did time activities on Friday.

We also got the chance to play in our play area every day (as usual). We are developing social skills, as well as creativity, communication and problem solving skills when we play with others.

Class Update Week beginning 27th April

This week we have continued to look at our book The Snail and the Whale. We also practised our spelling with different activities. In Maths, we practised telling the time.

In Art, we made beautiful sunflowers using drawing and colouring techniques. We then used tissue paper to add texture to the sunflowers.

We enjoyed practising different Badminton games.

We also had lots of play opportunities inside and outside.

We ended the week with a special story time with our P6/7 buddies who had written a book for us. We got to take the books home with us, too!

Home Learning week beginning 27th April

This week we are focusing on the <sh> sound for Primary 1s and the <ay> sound for Primary 2s. Please choose an activity from your sheet to practise your spelling words at home. It may also help you to highlight your sound in your word list.

In maths, we are looking at Telling Time this week. Primary 1s will read o’clock times from analogue and digital clocks, while Primary 2s will also look at half past times.

Please play the time board game at home to practise telling the time.

As always, please return your homework packs next Monday.

Class Update Week beginning 20th April

We have had a brilliant week back at school after our Easter holidays. Our highlight this week was definitely our Cattle Show visit but we have also done lots and lots of learning.

We were lucky to have had fantastic weather for our Cattle Show visit on Wednesday. Our crafts winners are: 3rd place – Harley; 2nd place – Amber; 1st place – Niamh. Congratulations!

In Literacy, we practised our phonics, compared a sea snail and a humpback whale as part of our book study on The Snail and the Whale, wrote postcards to the snails on the rock (free writing) and labelled the body parts of a snail.

Our maths focused on finding missing numbers in subtraction calculations. We used number lines to help us. We also looked at o’clock times and explored different coins for our money topic.

We also did lots of activities linked to The Snail and the Whale but also developing our maths, art, literacy and find motor skills:

In PE we started to learn Basketball with Mrs Cunningham and Badminton with Mrs Kane. Badminton is definitely trickier but everyone did a super job.

I hope that everyone has a fantastic weekend and that you can get to enjoy the lovely weather. See you on Monday!

Home Learning Week beginning 20th April

Welcome back!

It sounds like everyone has had a relaxing and very exciting holiday. It was lovely to see everyone again yesterday and to hear all of the news.

Literacy

This week, Primary 1s are learning the <qu> phonic and Primary 2s are looking a bit more closely at <wh>, practising harder words than last year.

Please check your word jotters and do one or more activities from your activity list to practise your spelling words for our spell check next week. If you want, you can highlight your spelling sound in your word list to practise spotting the grapheme you are learning.

Maths

We are continuing to practise  subtraction. Fact fluency is very helpful in subtraction (and addition) so I have given you a Roll and Race game to play at home this week.

Instructions – Each player needs a different colour of counters to mark their equations. You also need a die. Players take turns to roll the die and solve the first equation that corresponds to the number they have rolled (starting from the bottom). If they give the correct answer, they can put a counter on the equation marking it as theirs. If the answer is incorrect, they miss the turn. The game continues until a player solves the last equation in a column, making them the winner of the game.

In the example below, yellow is the winner of the game:

Homework

Due to the Easter holidays this week, there will be no homework issued for Primary 1/2. Books have been uploaded onto Boost Learning to consolidate the reading that has been taking place in class over the last few weeks. These can be practised at home between now and 1st May.
