What a busy week in P1/2

In P1, we have continued developing our phonological awareness, with a particular focus on auditory memory. We have been playing lots of fun listening and memory games to help build these important early literacy skills. We have also started learning our first sound, ‘s’.

During writing, P1 have been working on ‘Foundations of Writing’ and created detailed drawings for our “Brushing Our Teeth” lesson. We focused carefully on adding lots of detail to our pictures.

In P2, some of us have continued developing our descriptive writing, thinking about how we can add detail to make our writing more interesting. We have also been learning and revising the  ‘ch’ sound.

In numeracy, we have been busy developing our skills in counting, ordering numbers and number formation. Some of our  learners have also been working on place value, learning how to partition numbers into tens and ones.

Our Week in P1/2 

We have had another busy and exciting week in P1/2!

In Literacy, we have been learning about syllables and developing our early writing skills through Foundations of Writing. We created detailed drawings of our faces, thinking carefully about all the features we needed to include.

P2 have also been exploring  ‘Visualisation’ and beginning to develop their descriptive writing skills.

In Numeracy, we have been doing lots of counting, number formation and finding missing numbers. Some of us have been learning about place value, using tens and units to explore how numbers are made. We even created some fantastic tens and units monsters! Some of us have also been working on identifying the number before and after.

 We continued exploring our Deep Dark Wood topic this week. We learned how to identify living and non-living things in our environment and talked about what makes something living. We also got creative, making some lovely fox crafts and experimenting with mixing paints to create different colours for our artwork.

In music, we took part in some ‘body percussion’ and had fun finding the beat of a piece of music. Ask us about this at home!

We also enjoyed welcoming our families into our class during our stay and play. We were proud to talk about our learning.

Another fantastic week of learning in P1/2!

What a fantastic first full week in Primary 1/2!

This week has been very busy and full of lots of new learning. We have been focussing on developing our fine motor skills through lots of hands on activities. We have been practising our pre-writing shapes and lots of us have been working hard to improve our pencil control. We read lots of stories this week, a firm favourite being ‘Oi Frog!’ which has lots of rhyming words. We worked on identifying rhyme and lots of us were very successful when matching rhyming pairs. We also used our name boards to practise writing our names.

Some of us were introduced to the ‘ng’ sound. We learned about diacritical marking and were able to diacritically mark lots of ‘ng words’

In reading, Felix the Firefly introduced us to the strategy ‘Prior Knowledge’. Ask us about the ‘Prior Knowledge’ strategy at home!

We also began to look at descriptive writing. We took part in an activity where we had to describe a monster for our partner to draw. We realised how important it is to include lots of detail in our description. The monsters turned out great and will be on display in our classroom.

In Numeracy, we worked on counting and formation of numbers. We used the ‘tickled pink’ and ‘green for growth’ strategy to improve our numbers. We used the numicon and tens trains to represent numbers.

Some of us have started to learn about place value. We know that  the position of a digit can change its value. We are learning to read and recognise two digit numbers.

We took part in an activity called ‘I think, I see, I wonder’. Lots of us had very interesting ‘wonders’ about the woods and woodland animals. Mrs Hasson is going to help us explore our ‘wonders’ during our topic. Some of us worked as a team to mix paint, draw and then paint some ‘big art’ trees.

We also took part in an interesting activity using a portrait of ourselves. We used watercolour paint to transform our portraits, talking about each of our features as we did so. This will help us when we begin to make detailed drawings in ‘Foundations of Writing’.

What a fantastic week in Primary 1/2!

We have been very busy settling in to our new class. Primary 2 have been excellent role models for our new Primary 1’s and have welcomed them into our school beautifully.

This week has been jam packed with new learning, new routines and plenty of opportunities to work together, play and build relationships.

This week we had a focus on the Catrine Value of Teamwork. We are beginning to understand what it means to be part of a team and how we can work together in our class and school community. We also worked on our class charter and thought about what we want our classroom to look and feel like and talked about how we could work together to achieve this.
