Alcohol and drugs

The substance misuse curriculum at school develops the child / young person’s understanding of understanding of healthy lifestyles and the use and misuse of a variety of substances including over the counter and prescribed medicines, alcohol, drugs, tobacco and solvents.

Talking to your child about the dangers of tobacco, alcohol, and drugs for a young age is important as knowing the facts will help your child make healthy choices.

What do I need to say?

  • Find out what your child already knows.
  • Teach your child the facts.
  • Give your child clear rules.
  • Be prepared to answer your child’s questions.
  • Talk with your child about how to say “no.”
