We will deliver lots more after the holiday. If you would like to nominate someone to receive a Harvest bag please contact the school after our holiday.

Mrs Easter, Mrs Saxelby and Mr Swan delivered boxes to the local Foodbank. Miss Cook and Mrs Mills and pupils delivered bags of cupcakes to Crossgates Care Home and these were very well received by the residents.  ??

Parental Engagement – please take some time on Thursday

Please take time on Thursday afternoon /evening to visit our stalls and find out more information.  Parents/Carers will be asked to complete questionnaires and get information about a variety of curricular areas.

These will include –

Children’s Glow Blogs please take time to look at your child’s blog and if you haven’t logged on before there will be teams of children to show you how.
Onthank On Timewe will share information on how we are doing with attendance rates and the number of children who arrive to school on time.   As a school we can offer support if children have high absence rates or are not arriving on time.  Steven Swan is our full time Home Link Worker who works alongside Laura Gallagher, and together we can look to support families.

Onthank, On Task,  On Track – our reports have East Ayrshire Curriculum for Excellence Assessment Judgement Ratings.  Staff and children will be able to explain what these tracking numbers mean.
Homework club is not just for completing homework!  If parents/carers are unsure about an aspect of homework or would like to find out ways to help your child then homework club is open to you everyday of the week!
 See the source image
Information on how to get the best out of Bug Club  and take a look at teacher assessments with Bug Club.  As a parent, how can you make sure your child is making progress?

” Liked the opportunity to work together. The task was really challenging”

“After speaking with the school there have been really positive changes in the class.  My child is very happy in school.”

Recent surveys tell us that most parents find school staff approachable and have many opportunities for families to be involved with the school.  However most parents surveyed wanted guidance on how they could help their child learn at home.  We hope today offered an opportunity to see how children learn within the classroom and we will plan further  workshops which will give parents this information.  We have already planned this for P1 parents on Monday 30 September from 2.00 pm to meet the teachers and receive information about your child’s learning.

P7 Residential Visit to Inverclyde – Monday 2 – Friday 6 March 2020

P7 are going to Sportscotland Inverclyde on Monday 2 March to Friday 6 March 2020.  The cost of the visit will be approximately £330.  We will be asking for a non-refundable deposit of £40 to be paid by end of October.  The remainder of the balance can be paid in instalments through ParentPay and must be paid by the end of February.  If the cost of this trip is stopping your child considering going to Inverclyde please contact the school.  In the words of a P7 child last year “we want to make sure all our friends have a chance to experience this trip, cost should not be a barrier”.  We aim to fundraise to help reduce the cost.  Further info will follow.

There will be an information evening in school on Tuesday 8 October at 6.00 pm.  Gareth Turner from Inverclyde will deliver a presentation on the visit and will answer any questions you may have.

If you would like your child to attend the residential visit please complete the form below:

Message from the JRSO (Junior Road Safety Officers)

Dear Parents and carers of  Onthank Primary School,

It has come to our attention that people are parking where we get our deliveries .

It is risking a child’s life.   So we are kindly asking you to stop parking in that area.

It is also a danger for children walking to and from school.

If we stop parking in this area we will also stop car accidents happening.

Thank you for listening.

From  the JRSO Team

So proud of Katie?

We are so proud of Katie in P4E- she had her lovely long hair cut and donated it to The  Little Princess Trust. This is a charity which uses hair donations to make wigs for children with hair loss. Everyone in Onthank  was proud to see Katie receive the Special Award at Assembly.?

If you have any questions regarding this information please feel free to speak to Mr Swan this week. He is available and happy to speak at a time of your convenience.

All P4-7 pupils who have been signed up were sent an email from the school and a notification on the school app with updated information on how Gymnastics will run from now to December for them. Again, if you have any questions, Mr Swan is your man!

Mrs Andrew and the office staff have copies of all correspondence and are also available to assist in any way.

Over half the school have signed up for after school activities – AMAZING – and we appreciate your continued support at this time and we make the necessary amendments to “Our Activities” in order to provide the best experience possible for each young person.

Marvellous Me

Our new topic is Marvellous Me. We are learning about ourselves and the world around us. We thought a nice starting activity would be to share photos of us as babies. If possible, please send in a picture of your child as a baby with their name on the back to allow us to create a class display. We are looking to start collecting them from Monday 9th September,

We will return all photos at the end of the topic.

Many thanks,
