Over the course of the year, pupils at Onthank Primary School will have the opportunity to be trained in the Massage in Schools Programme (MISP).
MISP is a Health and Wellbeing programme which is 6 weeks training from a qualified instructor followed by a parents/carers session where our young people have the opportunity to share the skills they have learned.
Following the initial 6 weeks training, staff and pupils are fully trained and able to access the programme as part of their daily or weekly routine to support their Health and Wellbeing.
MISP is currently in use in more than 13 primary schools across East Ayrshire and is an internationally recognised association.
The roll out will begin with P1 and P3 with upper school training taking place over the remainder of the school session.

Here at Onthank Primary we believe that our strong relationship with our Parents and Carers is the key to having positive outcomes for our children and young people.
It is important for Parents and Carers to understand the curriculum their child will be following, in order to be able to support their child’s education.
3 ‘Nutshells’ have today been launched by the Scottish Government to provide an overview for Parents and Carers regarding their child’s learning.
Please have a read of the link below to see how we can strengthen the link between home and the classroom.
Any queries please do not hesitate to contact the school directly.

We were delighted to welcome parents/carers to our classes this afternoon. Mrs Wright and Mrs Findlay got a chance to speak with many of you. Comments included-
” Really good opportunity to see what is going on in the class.”
” Liked the opportunity to work together. The task was really challenging”
“After speaking with the school there have been really positive changes in the class. My child is very happy in school.”
Recent surveys tell us that most parents find school staff approachable and have many opportunities for families to be involved with the school. However most parents surveyed wanted guidance on how they could help their child learn at home. We hope today offered an opportunity to see how children learn within the classroom and we will plan further workshops which will give parents this information. We have already planned this for P1 parents on Monday 30 September from 2.00 pm to meet the teachers and receive information about your child’s learning.

P7 are going to Sportscotland Inverclyde on Monday 2 March to Friday 6 March 2020. The cost of the visit will be approximately £330. We will be asking for a non-refundable deposit of £40 to be paid by end of October. The remainder of the balance can be paid in instalments through ParentPay and must be paid by the end of February. If the cost of this trip is stopping your child considering going to Inverclyde please contact the school. In the words of a P7 child last year “we want to make sure all our friends have a chance to experience this trip, cost should not be a barrier”. We aim to fundraise to help reduce the cost. Further info will follow.
There will be an information evening in school on Tuesday 8 October at 6.00 pm. Gareth Turner from Inverclyde will deliver a presentation on the visit and will answer any questions you may have.
If you would like your child to attend the residential visit please complete the form below:

Dear Parents and carers of Onthank Primary School,
It has come to our attention that people are parking where we get our deliveries .
It is risking a child’s life. So we are kindly asking you to stop parking in that area.
It is also a danger for children walking to and from school.
If we stop parking in this area we will also stop car accidents happening.
Thank you for listening.
From the JRSO Team

Onthank School Community,
After the success of our first Community Night in June, where we welcomed over 600 members of our school and North West community, we are excited to announce – back by popular demand – our next Community Night event!
DATE: THURSDAY 12 SEPTEMBER 6PM – 7:30PM
We warmly invite you and your family to join us for another evening of fun, laughter and friendship – just complete the form so we know you are coming!
We are incredibly lucky at Onthank Primary for the amount of parental volunteers who make events such as this possible. If you would like to get involved with our Community Night, or any other school event, please speak to Steven Swan. Thank you in advance for your support! #whatateam #legends
Bring on the fun!

We are so proud of Katie in P4E- she had her lovely long hair cut and donated it to The Little Princess Trust. This is a charity which uses hair donations to make wigs for children with hair loss. Everyone in Onthank was proud to see Katie receive the Special Award at Assembly.?

Dear Onthank Families,
We are delighted at the response and sign up to after school Gymnastics at Onthank Primary – our young people will be leading a parent class before we know it!
Sign up for the October – December sessions for Gymnastics has now closed, but fear not, all pupils who wish to participate in Gymnastics but missed out, will get the chance to sign up between January 2020 – June 2020!
We are already planning more than one Gymnastics after school day from January onwards which will ensure all our young people have the opportunity to participate, this academic year.
All P1-3 pupils who have been signed up were given a letter from Mr Swan today and popped into their school bags with updated information on how Gymnastics will run from now to December. If you have any questions regarding this information please feel free to speak to Mr Swan this week. He is available and happy to speak at a time of your convenience.
All P4-7 pupils who have been signed up were sent an email from the school and a notification on the school app with updated information on how Gymnastics will run from now to December for them. Again, if you have any questions, Mr Swan is your man!
Mrs Andrew and the office staff have copies of all correspondence and are also available to assist in any way.
Over half the school have signed up for after school activities – AMAZING – and we appreciate your continued support at this time and we make the necessary amendments to “Our Activities” in order to provide the best experience possible for each young person.
Thank you, families – we look forward to welcoming you all on Thursday for Community Night – sign up NOW!

P7MC are fundraising using the “Rag Bag” Textile Recycling Initiative. This involves collecting clothes, shoes, bags, hats, belts, towels, curtains ad bed linen. The items should be clean and dry. They will be reused in the Developing World, recycled into fillers for mattresses and soundproofing or used as wiping cloths for oil and printing industries.
Pupils will be issued with a “Rag Bag” to be filled or you can fill your own bag and send in to school no later than Wednesday 25 September.

Our new topic is Marvellous Me. We are learning about ourselves and the world around us. We thought a nice starting activity would be to share photos of us as babies. If possible, please send in a picture of your child as a baby with their name on the back to allow us to create a class display. We are looking to start collecting them from Monday 9th September,
We will return all photos at the end of the topic.
Many thanks,
