Young Carers

Supporting our Young Carers

If you believe your child is a Young Carer, we would like to hear from you.

A young carer is someone who is aged between 5-18 that may look after a relative.

They may have to look after someone who has:

  • poor mental health
  • a physical disability
  • problematic substance misuse
  • requires extra emotional support
  • needs extra help sometimes

We are keen to support our pupils in school and work with the East Ayrshire Young Carers group who offer a number of activities to children who have a caring role to play at home.

Please fill in the form if your child is a Young Carer.

P7 Transition information for parents

Dear P7 parents,
As we move forward in our preparations for P7 transition, I would like to share Kilmarnock Academy’s progress and our future plans for the transition experience.
All P7 classes took part in our Modern Languages challenge in October and we were delighted with the results with prizes won at every primary. I hope you also enjoyed our Virtual P7 Information Evening in December and benefited from the tour of our amazing school.
Behind the scenes, Mrs Wallace has been meeting with P7 teachers to discuss and support various aspects of transition to ensure your son/daughter gets the best opportunities when they arrive.
Our programme continues with our virtual Expressive Arts activity which will be released next week through your primary schools. We hope you enjoy this activity.
Moving forward, we will be visiting every primary school, either in person or virtually, and we hope to offer P7 pupils a chance to visit Kilmarnock Academy too. Please keep up to date with our app for any information.
Kind Regards
David Rose
Head Teacher
