Terrific Tuesday

Morning everyone, let’s learn together!

NUMERACY: Number Bonds

Do you remember when we used to record everything we knew about a number in our Thinking It Through Jotters?

Let’s watch this video: Jack is telling us different ways of recording the number ten!

Task:  Write out the number 10 in all the different ways that the video shows you?

Add in the pair calculations that you explored yesterday e.g. 9 +1, 8 +2 etc.

Challenge:  Do this with a different number between 10 and 20, e.g. 15?

Add in calculations for your chosen number too?

Remember: Upload your work to your own personal blog page if possible!

LITERACY: The Alphabet

We are looking at HANDWRITING today. Remember you can write each letter in the alphabet in two ways!

You DON’T have to watch all this video but it shows you how to form each letter if you are struggling with a particular letter.

You can skip the video to reach the letter you want help with:

There is the Upper Case, Capital Letters:

A B C D E F G H I J K L M N O P Q R S T U V W X Y Z

There is the Lower Case, Small Letters:

a b c d e f g h i j k l m n o p q r s t u v w x y z

You can record both together if you prefer:

Aa, Bb, Cc, Dd, Ee, Ff, Gg, Hh, Ii, Jj, Kk, Ll, Mm, Nn, Oo,

Pp, Qq, Rr, Ss, Tt, Uu, Vv, Ww, Xx, Yy, Zz

Task: Write the alphabet in both upper and lower case? What will you use?

            (coloured pencils, writing pencils, chalk, paint, crayons, pens etc.)

Challenge: Write a word beginning with each letter?

Remember: Share your work on your blog if you can!

LIVING THINGS AND LIFE CYCLES: The Life Cycle of a Chick

Let’s find out some interesting facts about these little beauties. Watch the video.

Task: Let someone know your favourite part of this video by:

a) Speaking  b) Drawing  c) Writing in a sentence

You can choose 1, 2 or all 3 of these ideas.

Challenge: Make a poster showing all that you have learned about chicks/hens.

You can use drawings, sentences, labels, bullet points etc.  – Go for it!

Mymaths login

I’ve created a video about logging into and using the mymaths website as there are a few functions that might not be immediately obvious. It is my hope that this may make using the website a bit easier for everyone.

Task: Can you write 10 in the middle of a bit of paper or with chalk outside and write as many different ways of making 10 as you can?

LITERACY:  The Alphabet

(It’s the alphabet song to the tune of the Scottish song “Auld Lang Syne”)

Task:  Can you take part in an alphabet scavenger hunt?

You need to look round your house or maybe even your garden too and FIND an object or something beginning with that letter.

Challenge:  Can you write down everything you collected?

Remember:  Post either a picture of you with all you could find or you might want to post your writing!

LIFE CYCLES AND LIVING THINGS:  Life Cycle of a Hen

1/ Can you watch this wee video?

Task: Can you have a go at recording the life cycle of a chick in any way you like.

Here is an arty idea but you could write about it, draw about it or record yourself telling us about it!

I hope you eventually managed to watch the Virtual Assembly- I think there were a few technical issues.

Thursday 7th May

Good Morning P2!

I’m up bright and early this morning and it looks like it’s going to be another lovely sunny day.

This morning there is an Assembly at 10am!!!!

Details are on the school blog if you want to join in.

Tomorrow is a school holiday so that means that today is our ‘catch up’ day. If you haven’t managed to do something I suggested this week, like shadow art, then you could do it today if you want.

If you have already done everything you want to and are looking for more activities then you could check out today’s daily lessons on BBC Bitesize-

  1. Maths- add more and  count on
  2. Literacy- there’s quite a lot of work on here today! (you don’t have to do lots of writing-maybe just talk about it with your parent/carer)
  3. Computing- this is really interesting as it tells you all about coding and there are some games to play.

All week we have been learning about the Seasons, talking about the weather and finding out what plants need to grow.

I’m sure you all know by now that one things plants need to grow is water- but do you know where water comes from?

Sharing our work

Hi P2,

There has been lots to do this week already!

Don’t worry if you haven’t managed to get much done yet-Friday is a school ‘holiday’ so Thursday will be our ‘catch up’ day this week.

Happy Wednesday P2!

sunflower seeds

Last week I asked you to find out about plants and what a plant needs to grow.

I planted sunflower seeds a few weeks ago and they have grown into seedlings. If I look after them I should have lovely sunflowers to plant in my garden in summer.

Do you know what season we are in?

In Spring the weather starts to get warmer.

There is more daylight- have you noticed that it is lighter outside until later?

It also rains quite a bit so that plants get the water they need. (or if it’s not rainy you need to water them)

The weather in spring gives plants the sunlight, warmth and water they need to grow.

Talking of weather, have any of you seen Sean Batty’s Mini Met Team on STV?

I love watching the videos the kids send in. I’ve tried to find out how you could be part of the Mini Met Team if you want to. I think you follow him on Twitter @SeanBattySTV and #MiniMetTeam.

Good Morning P2,

Lots of today’s work has been inspired by the amazing shadows I saw in my garden yesterday, like this one of my Fig Tree.

  • Today I would like you to learn about the science of shadows. Here is a Youtube link explaining light and shadows-

  • If you watch this Peep and the Big Wide World you might get some good ideas of how to have fun with shadows-

  • The weather forecast said to would be sunny today so you could look at your shadows outside and maybe make some funny or scary shapes with them?
  • Another fun thing to do with shadows is to make some shadow art. If you watch these youtube clips they will give you lots of ideas to make shadow art if you want to-

As well as the shadow science and art you could also do some BBC Bitesize Daily Lessons if you want-

  1. Literacy- Using capital letters and full stops

There is always some thing to do online if you want. Remember your teacher has given you work on mymaths, Bugclub and Teach your Monster to Read.

After all of that hard work here is a story called ‘Bear Shadow’ by Frank Asch

Today we would like you to have a look at Number bonds in numeracy.

Number bonds are a pair of numbers that add up to make another specific number. They are sometimes called number pairs .

They can show you how numbers join together and how they break down into different parts.

Friday 1st May

Good Morning P2,

I hope you have all enjoyed the activities this week. We’ve asked you to do a lot so today is a catch up day. If you didn’t get round to doing an activity this week, then you could do it today if you want?

This week we have asked you to –

  • do some BBC Bitesize Daily Lessons
  • watch Mrs Kidd’s video and try to post on your Glow Blog
  • be a scientist and learn about plants and what they need to grow
  • go on new websites- mymaths and Teach Your Monster to Read
  • Dance with Trolls
  • be Geraldine the Giraffe
  • and lots, lots more !!!

This week I have learned lots about Glow, how to post pictures, share hyperlinks, do rainbow writing and share photos!

Today I’m in The Hub and next week Mrs Saxelby is going to be posting your work on Glow.

My class always look forward to ‘Big Choosing’ on a Friday. So….

Why don’t you find a toy or game you haven’t played with for a while and play with it again.
