Beautiful, Beloved Birds!
P6/7 stitched a felt bird for a special person in their life. They had to learn how to cut a pattern out, pin it on to the felt and then cut it out very carefully.
Buttons were sewn on to the wings and running or back stitches were used to sew the sides together – life skills for the future!
Don’t you think they look bold, bright and brilliant birds?
Golden Eagle Conservation in our Biosphere
P1/2 and P6/7 enjoyed visits from Philip Munro, Golden Eagle Project Scotland. They worked together to find about Golden Eagle features and habitats. They then produced detailed Golden Eagle and other birds of prey art work.

School Disco – Thursday 30th March
Ochiltree Primary Disco
Ochiltree Primary School Main Hall
THURSDAY 30TH MARCH 6.30pm – 8.20pm
P1 – P7
Price per child £2 pay on Parent Pay.
Snacks are available – see attached price list from the Parent Council.
Water is available throughout the evening free of charge.
All children to arrive at the front door and depart by the P5/6/7 doors. All children will be checked in and checked out.
Parents should leave their child/ren at the main entrance by 6.30pm. Please note that only school staff and PVG checked Parent Council volunteers will supervise the children.
The Easter Raffle will be drawn at 8pm by the Parent Council and prizes issued to the children.
Children should be collected at 8.20pm. A one way system will be in operation.
Parents should enter the school by the main entrance, collect their child from the main hall and depart the school via the P6/7 classroom and exit door.
We look forward to our first disco in a long time.
Farming, Agriculture and STEM
P5/6 and P6/7 welcomed Farmer Bryce of Mossgiel Milk and Mrs Morton of Morton’ s Milk to discuss all things dairy in the local area. Farmer Bryce shared information on his own farm, his ancestors and how dairy farming has progressed through the years. Mrs Morton shared with us the process of milking and all about her computerised farm shop which stocks lots of locally sourced goodies. We then welcomed Mark from SmartSTEM who showed us an experiment on how to separate fat from milk. A huge thank you to all of our visitors for taking the time to share their experiences with us.

Parent Council – Easter Raffle

Mining in Ochiltree with Davie Reid and Brian McGhie
P5/6 and P6/7 were delighted to welcome Davie Reid and Brian McGhie into the class to talk about their experiences of being miners in Ochiltree. Davie and Brian brought lots of memorabilia which they were kind enough to let us try on and explore. They shared stories of what life was like working in the Killoch and Barony pits and what life was like in Ochiltree during the Miner’s Strike. Pupils loved listening to this fantastic piece of their history and enjoyed asking lots of questions! A huge thanks to Davie and Brian for taking the time to share their stories with pupils.
Kelpies Project

Primary 5/6/7 had a culinary experience on Monday trying out a “piece”!
They tried plain bread, jam and cheese or bread, marmalade and cheese.

Football Match – Friendly Shortlees P.S
Due to transport timings, the kick-off for today’s friendly football match against Shortlees P.S. will be delayed. As a result the match is not anticipated to finish until arounjd 4.15/4.30 p.m.

Mining with Mr Renton
As part of our Ochiltree topic, P5/6 and P6/7 have been learning about mining in the local area. We have been looking closely at the Barony and Killoch pits and learning about what life was like as a miner. We are incredibly lucky to have our very own Mr Renton as a primary source who spent a few years working in the Barony. Mr Renton took to the hot seat to share his experiences of life down the pit with the pupils. Thanks again Mr Renton – we especially loved all of your gruesome tales!
World Book Day 2023
We all enjoyed celebrating World Book Day 2023 together in the assembly hall! We dressed up and found a cosy spot to share some of our favourite stories all together with different classes. Lots of fun had by all!
Red Nose Day – Friday 17 March
Ochiltree P.S. will be celebrating Red Nose Day on 17 March 2023 with a “dress down day”. Red Nose Day 2023 is on Friday 17 March. This year, the event focuses on raising money and awareness around the cost of living crisis, as millions of people in the UK and across the world need support now more than ever. Donations can be paid through ParentPay. All raised funds will go to Comic Relief.

Ochiltree P.S. – Mock Wedding
P5,6,7 Football Training – Monday 6th March 2023
Please note that on Monday 6th March 2023 the players will be involved in a friendly football match with Shortlees P.S. The game will take place at Ochiltree Primary School during normal training time. Pupils should attend training as normal.
