Sounds/Phonemes

We have now learned all of the sounds to be taught in Primary 1 and now we will work on developing a deeper understanding of these sounds and use them to then have confidence to move on with reading and various literacy tasks.

Task 1 – Revision of all Sounds  encourage them to say the sound and do the action and use their sound booklet  to support this.  I check the children’s understanding daily and would value your support.

Task 2 – Word Lists – Most children have been provided with wordlists now and I email them to you individually – please encourage your child to sound out the letters and blend them to read the words.

Task 3 – Reading Book If your child has been provided with a reading book please encourage them to practice 2-3 times across the week.  Ensure they bring their book daily to class as I will hear reading 2-3 times in the class and will update their reading record appropriately.  Please sign the record when you have heard your child.

Task 1 – Numeracy and Mathematics booklet

Numeracy and Mathematics booklet-  a revision booklet of the different concepts taught in maths during Primary 1 – please encourage your child to work on this booklet over the next few weeks to support their revision of the concepts. (This booklet will be sent home during the week of 2nd May)

They may ask you for some counters – this can be the milk bottle tops I provided with sounds on them, stones, buttons, shells… anything you have that they can use to count.

Task 2 – Place Value Number Game –  click the link underneath.

We have been counting in 2s, 5s and 10s using the following songs – here they are for some extra practise at home.

PRIMARY 1 HOMEWORK GRID

The link below is an extended home learning grid for Primary 1 – feel free to encourage your child to complete tasks from it weekly to support their learning.
