Bug Club books have been allocated online. Children have been given word lists with their new words for the sound au: sauce, because, pause, haunt and fault. For numeracy, children have been given a 2 times table worksheet. Using stones or other concrete resources will help them with this or skip counting using their fingers has helped a lot of children in class.

W/C 3rd February

Bug Club books have been allocated online, however we were on Bug Club during ICT today so children may have already accessed these in school. For homework children have been given their word list with the new sound ‘ue’ and 4  common words, these are: glue, clue, Sue, true, blue, day, away, always and today. Children have also been given a fraction worksheet of colouring the fractions to show halves and quarters, labelling the fractions and splitting the shapes up into fractions. We went over this homework in class today, however we have briefly left fractions to look at position and movement so this might not be as fresh in their heads, if children find this tricky please do not hesitate to contact me through the yellow book.

W/C 27th January

Bug club books have been allocated online and I have also allocated some fraction games, for the fraction of a quantity game children have been using counters and animals to split the number into 2 groups for halves and 4 groups for quarters so this could help them at home too. Children also received their ow words home which are: low, grow, throw, follow, shallow and show, they have the common word before on the list also. Children were also given a fraction of a quantity worksheet, so as above using materials like counters, pennies, stones etc will help them with completing this job.

W/C 20th January

Bug club books have been allocated online. Children have been given a word list home with their new words this week for the sound ‘ea’. These words are: speak, clean, steal, stream, team, eat and wheat. Children have also been given a number line subtraction sheet to work on.

W/C 13th January

Bug Club books have now been allocated, sorry for the delay as I have been working through assessments this week. It is likely your child has now moved up a level with their books so please let me know if you are finding that your child is struggling with their allocated book.

Sorry that I forgot to put the homework up last week and that there was a delay in giving it out, I misprinted the children’s words and had to redo them. This week the children have been given a subtraction sheet (please do not feel like you have to do all the questions with your child as there is quite a lot, 10 or so is fine as long as you think they are getting the hang of it). Children also have their ay words home to practise. Their words this week are: day, tray, play, stay, prayer, way, clay. If anyone has misplaced the homework grid please do not hesitate to let me know and I can reprint some. I am in the process of assessing children at their current bug club level so I will allocate books over the next couple of days.

W/C 9th December

I have not given any homework to children this week, given that it is a chaotic week with nativity performances. I have allocated Bug Club as normal. You can get children to practise their common words and their phoneme words using the grid if you wish but we will not be learning a new sound this week so it will just be revision of old phonemes.

W/C 25th November

Children have been given a skip counting in 5’s worksheet home. They have also been given a 100 square to help them with this job as I know that a lot of the children find the 5 skip count the most difficult. Children can use the 100 square to colour in the boxes to show the 5 skip count or you can keep this at home as a tool to help children with their number jobs. I have forgotten to give children their new sound home but their new sound is ‘oa’ and the words are: boat, foal, coat, road, float and loan. Bug Club has been allocated online.

W/C 18th November

Children have been given either a number bonds to 10 worksheet for revisiting or a place value ordering 2 digit numbers activity. They have also been given their new word list for the week with the words: toy, boy, enjoy, royal and cowboy as our new sound is oy. Children should practise these words using one of the strategies from the active spelling sheet. They should also be continuing to look at their common words. Bug Club has been allocated. I have put a lot of the children up a level so if you find they are struggling with the content of their books please let me know through the children’s yellow books.

W/C 11th November

Children were given a number bonds to 10 worksheet for revision for numeracy. They have also been given their word list for our new sound ‘ai’, the words are: chair, hair, stair, brain, stain, train and rain. Children should practise these words using one of the strategies from the active spelling sheet. They should also be continuing to look at their common words. Books have been allocated on Bug Club.

W/C 4th November

Sorry that I never updated the blog yesterday with homework, the internet was down when I tried to do this yesterday. Children were given there new word list for the week which included the words: sack, back, neck, peck, pick, bucket and rocket. Children should practise there words using one the strategies from the active spelling grid and also their common words. Children have also been given a number line subtraction job as subtraction is something we will revisit throughout the year. Bug Club has been allocated.

W/C 28th October

Children will be given their new word lists for this week for the phoneme ‘ee’. The words included are: see, green, three, sleep, feel, need and deep. Children should practise these words using one of the strategies from the active spelling grid. With these words and/or their common word lists: have, your, only, by, are, come, of and new, children could try writing a sentence or two including some of these words focusing on finger spaces, capital letters, letter formation and full stops. In numeracy we have been looking at estimation in the classroom so if possible this week could you try and get children estimating how many of something there is and looking at comparing two or more quantities, eg: do you think there is more or less? Bug Club books have been allocated online and children may have moved up a level so books might be a bit more challenging.

W/C 22nd October

Children should have been given a skip counting worksheet today for numeracy, a common word list which includes the words: have, your, only, by, are, come, of and new and their phoneme word list which includes the words: zoo, mood, fool, spoon, look, stool and cook. Children should practice their common words and phoneme words using the active spelling strategies on the grid. It might also be an idea to try and use some of these words in a sentence which we will be doing in class also. I have not allocated Bug Club yet as I am moving children up reading bands after assessing them so this should be done by Wednesday after all the children have been assessed as reading groups will potentially be changing.

W/C 10th October

I have allocated a few Heinemann Active Maths games on children’s Active Learn accounts. These games look at addition and subtraction and skip counting which we have been learning about in class. I have also allocated a number of books to those who had asked for more Bug Club books last night at parents night so these are set at the level below what your child is currently reading.

W/C 7th October

This week our new sound is ‘ph’. Children were given their new word list which include the words: Phil, phone, phoneme, photograph and elephant. Children should complete one activity from the homework grid using these words. You could even see if children can use any of these or any other ‘ph’ words in a sentence. Children were also given a number names word search as we have been looking at the number names in class. Bug Club books should have been allocated.

W/C 30th September

This week our new sound is ‘wh’. Children should have been given their new word list which includes the words: what, wheel, whisk, when, why, whisper and whiskers. If children can complete one activity from the homework grid using these words. Children were also given another numeracy sheet on odd and even numbers to complete for Friday or Monday if this suits better. Books should be allocated on Bug Club.

W/C 25th September

This week we will not be learning a new sound so if children can revise their sh, ng, th, and ch sounds completing an activity from the homework grid. Children should have been given a sheet today looking at odd and even numbers, this is a concept that a number of children were finding difficult today so we will be looking at this over the next few days in class. I will allocate books on bug club. I am aware that this is a shorter week so if children can aim to have this completed by Monday.

W/C 16th September

Our sound of the week is ‘ng’. Children should aim to complete 1 literacy activity from the homework grid with the ‘ng’ spelling words they were given today. Some children have left these in school, I have copies in class that I can send home tomorrow but they are: strong, ring, thing, string, bang, bring and sting. Children should also have a sequencing snakes sheet which involves ordering numbers, the front of the sheet should be a bit simpler and I would be happy if children only completed this but if they would like a challenge the back of the sheet has trickier examples. Bug club books have been allocated online. If children could return this by this Thursday. If this is not enough time then next Wednesday would be fine also.

W/C 9th September

Our sound of the week is ‘th’ (in thanks/think etc). Children should aim to complete 1 literacy activity from the homework grid with the ‘th’ spelling words they were given today. If anyone is missing either the homework grid, graffiti word wall, wordsearch sheet or their words if you write a note in the yellow book then I will provide these for home. It would be a good idea if children could keep their previous words in the homework pocket provided as it would be useful to continually revisit these words. I have also provided numeracy work this week which involves answering questions about a pictograph which is something we have been looking at in class last week. Books should be allocated on Bug Club which are the reading books that we will be looking at in class.

W/C 2nd September

Our sound this week is ‘ch’. Children should aim to complete 1 literacy activity from the homework grid with their ‘ch’ spelling words.

Books should be allocated on Bug Club.

W/C 26th August

There will be literacy homework this week which is related to the new literacy scheme we are going to be following in class – Active Literacy. Children will receive a poly pocket that includes a grid with different active spelling ideas, a graffiti spelling sheet, a wordsearch sheet, a strategy card and this weeks spelling words. Children can choose which way they would like to learn their spelling words each week from the grid and some of the ideas will not provide any work to be handed in. If children have written them down this can be handed in on a Friday or if they have explored their spelling words in a more active way then pictures are welcomed but not expected. This weeks words cover various phonemes that children will have learned in Primary 1.

Books should be allocated on Bug Club.
