ECC learning week beginning 17.4.23

We were delighted to welcome back all our wonderful children and families to the ECC this week and hope you all had a super Easter break 🐣🐰🎉

The children were very happy to be back with their friends and engaging with the learning opportunities on offer.  📖✍️📚📏✂️🎨

Curriculum links: Health and Well-being

Indoors the children have been exploring signs around the ECC and in the local environment. We are learning to spot signs and understand their meanings.

Curriculum links: Literacy

We’ve also been showing an interest in vehicles and designing our own cars.  We’ve been exploring the forces of push and pull through vehicles too.  This interest has led to learning road safety skills.

Curriculum links: Maths, Science, Health and Well-being

Outdoors the children have been enjoying the warmer weather and learning how to keep safe in the sun shine☀️🕶.  We discussed the importance of wearing hats to protect our heads and create shade for our face.   We’ve constructed shelters and dens to provide us with a shady spot to rest and play under.  This has sparked an interest in camping as the children have been making sleeping bags and packing their rucksacks to go on a camping trip to the jungle! We’ve also been constructing a campfire and learning safety around the fire.

Week beginning 20th march 2023

Indoor learning

Children have taken a real interest in bugs following on from our visitor on Friday. They have been exploring all kinds of insects from spiders to millipedes and made an imaginary bug hotel to role play indoors.

Some  children have been investigating the life cycle of bugs and how they stay alive. They have been using their scrap books to explore literacy and their drawings.

CURRICULAR AREAS –  SCN, HWB, MNU, LITERACY.

Within the creative area children have been using craft materials to represent their own bugs, looking at how many kegs they have, the pattern of their skin to name a few learning skills. This has been in both craft and dough.

CURRICULAR AREA – EXA, SCN, HWB, MNU, RME

Outdoor Learning

Almost all children have continued to show an interest in how to look after a baby and with the weather being slightly warmer this week they got the opportunity to bath their babies and share their knowledge with each other.

They have also continued using the construction but instead of towers they have been exploring obstacle courses again using knowledge they have gained from previous learning. They were still keen to use the measuring resources too.

CURRICULAR AREA –  HWB, MNU, RME, LIT, SOC

WOODS

We have completed our den building task up the woods where all 3 groups were challenged to build a shelter to have their snack. Each group did a different den and built up life long skills doing so.

Play & stay session are next week so check board at entrance for your day! Monday is RED group.

have fun weekend, Lynnette x

Week beginning 13.03.23

Week beginning 13.03.23

This week the children have been exploring a range of activities relating to STEM in celebration of STEM week 🧪 🖥 👷‍♀️ 🧮

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Science,_technology,_engineering,_and_mathematics

Exploring soil 🍃

As we have been focusing on the Jungle, we began looking at the jungle floor layers and their purpose. We looked at the soil specifically and how it give plant life nutrients and then we created our own terrariums to show the different layers and how it looks. We created these using various glass containers. We will be looking at these on a daily basis to discover if there is any insect life or new plant life 🐜

Science!
The name comes from the Latin terra (“earth”) + atrium (a place or receptacle) Like an aquarium for plants and earth instead of fish and water.

We later planted some vegetable seeds and herbs in the garden after really enjoying our terrarium building 🌱

We also had a special visitor in the ECC this week. Dr Kelly and Miss Thomson are parents within the centre who specialises in science. They prepared a fantastic experience for us which included learning about bugs/insects. We explored mean bugs and superhero bugs, to understand which bugs help us and which we should avoid. We got to use special microscopes from the university and explored different samples. The children throughly enjoyed this experience and we thank Dr Kelly and Miss Thomson for their involvement and help in STEM week ⭐️

We ended our week with our STEM awards ceremony where everyone was recognised for their part during the week 👏 💫

Outdoors

In relation to STEM week, everyone had the opportunity to participate in our outdoor challenge 🧱 The children were set the challenge of using multiple resources to create a tower of height. They then had to use various measuring objects to calculate who had created the tallest tower before recording their findings on our whiteboard. The children discussed numbers, sizes and ordering of numerals. The winner of the highest tower was awarded a special certificate for their achievement 😊

Hope you all have a fantastic weekend and take care,

Lisa 😊

Week beg: 6th March 2023.

This week indoors the children have began to explore Jungle animals. We have been using technology, ie iPads and Promethean Board to find out information about what animals live in the Jungle.

In the art area we have been exploring animal patterns of stripes, spots etc. using a variety of media like paint and collage.

Outdoors we are learning about Health and Hygiene…how to wash ourselves and our clothes using dolls and child size clothes. We are also starting to match numbers using natural resources and have been pairing up the socks we have washed.

Next week is STEM week and we will be exploring a variety of activities in the ECC. We are also having a visit from one of our parents who is a micro biologist 👨‍🔬

Have a lovely weekend everyone

Jan 😊

Week beginning 27th February

This week in the main playroom the children have been continuing to explore dinosaurs. They have been exploring tuff tray to explore where dinosaurs live and what they eat.

PLAYROOM

Indoors the children continued to learn about dinosaurs. With a focus on dinosaur skeletons and  what dinosaurs eat. Children took part in looking at the different sizes of dinosaurs feet and compared them with the sizes of their own feet. A display was made that is on the ECC playroom wall. Children used technology to research dinosaurs and to consolidate their previous learning.

Social studies, technology,  literacy, maths and numeracy.

CREATIVE AREA

In the creative area children made a 3-D dinosaur using boxes, paint and glue. Look out for the dinosaur appearing in our reception area in the ECC soon!!!!!!!!!

OUTDOORS

Outdoors children focused on spatial awareness where they used bikes, jumping spots and small cars to learn about direction and where it was safe to go. Children explored  spacehoppers as well to follow direction.
