This week in the indoor playroom following from children’s interests and discussion around a trip to the safari park, the children have been exploring safari animals in the small world area. Using their imagination and applying their knowledge and real life experiences throughout.

The children have been using the ipads and promethean board to fact find about safari animals and extend their knowledge on the animals habitats. The children then extended their learning into exploring animal sounds and an animal sound guessing game to test their knowledge. Some children also enjoyed reciting animal rhymes and songs.

The creative area has had a revamp this week to encourage independence and self-selection of resources. This has been a very popular area this week where the children have been observed mark making, creating collage images and also constructing their own designs.

This week outdoors we have been continuing to build our knowledge around plants through exploring the different parts of a plant by making our own flower gardens and ensuring we looked after our carrots and peas – looking out for changes in how they grow each day. Within the mud kitchen the children used our herb garden to incorporate into their recipes. We explored the smell, texture and look of the herbs. The mint was a favourite herb in our mud kitchen.
The children have also enjoyed exploring risk and physical play through building their own towers and building their own obstacle courses outdoors. The children worked together to create challenging and more easy parts of the course and used problem solving to fix unsafe parts of the course, sometimes this took some time and some suggestion from an adult but the children persevered throughout.

Have a lovely weekend everyone, Cara.
