Seasonal Art
What season is it in the story? What colours has the illustrator chosen to use? Why? Go exploring outdoors and look for the colours of the season.
Collect the colours and start by putting some double sided sticky tape on a piece of card. Peel off the top layer and on your daily walk add pieces of leaf, petal, seed…. Challenge yourself to find as many different colours as you can.
If you don’t have double sided tape you can make yourself a sticky tape bracelet (sticky side outward) and attach your finds as you go.
Paint a picture to show what season of the year it is. Use what you have learned about the colours around us to make a painting that uses the colours you spotted. Take your paint and paper outdoors if you can and try and match your paint to the true colours – you may have to mix your colours together to get an exact match!
Make Music Outdoors
- Take musical instruments outdoors or make your own (there are suggestions for how you can do that on our Woo TCH Activities pages) to experiment with outdoors.
- Find some sturdy sticks and beat them against a tree trunk or other hard surface while you sing out a simple song you know well (perhaps Twinkle Twinkle or Happy Birthday). Choose another tune to tap out but don’t tell anyone what you have chosen and don’t sing it out loud! Can anyone else name your tune.
Sing Songs Outdoors
Singing songs around a campfire or while you are out on a walk is fun and you quickly build up a collection of favourites. Here are just 2 to get you started.
Incey Wincey Spider
Incey Wincey Spider
Climbed the Water spout
Down came the rain and washed the spider out
Out came the sunshine and dried up all the rain
So Incey Wincey climbed the spout.
Can you repeat the song in a whisper, really loud, humming?
Row, Row, Row Your Boat
Row, row, row your boat gently down the stream
If you see a crocodile don’t forget to scream.
When you are outdoors you can add a terrible scream!
