The changing and changeable weather at this time of year sometimes makes going outdoors seem a bit of a challenge!
Autumn 30 Minute Activities
We have put together some suggestions for quick activities to make the most of the learning experiences that autumn has to offer.
They have been kept simple and ‘resource light’. They are designed to be completed in 30 minutes or less and all activities can and should be adapted to the particular needs of your learners.
Autumn – Literacy, Group Folding Poem
Autumn – Add MNU to your Daily Mile
Autumn – IDL Game, Touch 3 Then Me
Autumn – MNU, Literacy and EXA Colour Match
Woodland Trust Nature Detectives – Autumn
Woodland Trust – 6 Signs of Autumn Can learners add to or create their own list of the signs of the seasons?
Autumn Writing
We are often approached for advice on how to deal with wasps in school playgrounds. Turn this potential problem into an opportunity and ask pupils to create a piece of writing. The text might give advice on how to deal safely with wasps or might try and persuade readers of the benefits of sharing our outdoor spaces with these amazing insects!
We have a Wasps teacher information sheet to get you started and (for EAC teachers) the Four Writing Styles and Nine Text types – Coverage of Writing overview grid will allow you to plan and track coverage of writing tasks across all primary stages.
Further suggestions for writing activities can be found Outdoor Learning Contexts for Writing – Four Writing Styles and 9 Text Types
