In our ASN support resource boxes, you will find a story sequencer and some talking tiles. Both of these resources can be used to record pupil’s thoughts and ideas which can help to bring story telling to life and support imagination.
How to use talking tiles
These could be recorded on and set up prior to the lesson starting. You could record your ideas and hide the talking tiles around the playground and then ask pupils to find them and put them in order. You could make up a story to do this, or use a story that your class are already familiar with.
You could also hide the talking tiles around the school grounds and take pupils on an imaginative adventure around their playground.
You could use ideas from these lessons:
At each stop on your adventure walk, pupils could record what has been happening on their talking tile. This would then allow them to sequence their story and expand on it back in class.
How to use the story sequencer
The story sequencer can be used to recall the events of a story or adventure that has happened outdoors. Pupils could take photos of things that they have done and sequence them into the correct order using the resource. They can also press the button to record and talk about what is happening.
