Going on a shape hunt is a great way for learners of all levels to look at and identify shapes in the real world and to start thinking about why those particular shapes are used in the environment.
We have put together some shape hunt activities that pupils could try on daily walks with their family. We have differentiated activities to suit Early, First and Second Levels.
Early Level
CfE E&O: MTH 0-16a
In this activity, pupils can go on their daily walk and look for different 2D shapes, ticking them off when they find them.
First Level
CfE E&O: MTH 1-16a
Similar to the Early Level activity, here learners can look for 2D and 3D shapes on their walk and tick them off when they find them.
This activity could be followed up by pupils creating shapes from natural materials as seen in this activity: Making Shapes from Natural Materials. We also have a sway lesson on this page which can be shared with pupils.
Second Level
CfE E&O: MTH 2-16a
This activity focus on learners identifying 3D shapes, and exploring the where and why they are being used in the environment.
